Honda CB 400 X (2020)

New adventure model for Japan

With the CB 400 X, Honda has added a new adventure model to its product portfolio, which will initially only be available in Japan. It is still unclear whether the launch will follow in other markets.

UThe CB 400 X presented here is actually not a completely new model. Much more, Honda has given the CB 400 X, which is only available on the Japanese market, numerous updates that keep the adventure bike up to date technically. The first thing you should notice is the new paintwork, which looks much more elegant than the paintwork on the predecessor motorcycles.

LED lighting and adjustable windshield

Honda has equipped the new CB 400 X with LED lamps as standard, a windshield that can be adjusted in two stages, spoked wheels, spring elements that have been revised compared to the previous model, an anti-hopping clutch, ABS, adjustable levers and digital instruments. According to the technical data sheet on the Japanese Honda website, the CB 400 X should weigh 196 kilograms.

Honda.

The new Honda CB 400 X will initially only be available in Japan.

The new CB 400 X is powered by a parallel twin with 399 cm³, which provides 45 hp and 38 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The CB 400 X is primarily intended for the road rather than for off-road excursions – but smaller excursions into easy terrain should still be possible. Honda specifies 800 mm for the seat height. The new Honda CB 400 X will be available in Japan in the two color variants "Matte Ballistic Black Metallic" and "Pearl Glare White" offered.

CB 500 X the global alternative

Initially, the new Honda CB 400 X will be available exclusively on the Japanese market from July 2020. It is still completely open whether Honda is aiming for a market launch in other markets – but it is highly unlikely that the CB 400 X will make it to Europe. With the CB 500 X, Honda offers a very similar model in the rest of the world, which does not differ greatly from the new CB 400 X in terms of optics, ergometry and equipment. The CB 500 X, which is currently available in Germany from 6,999 euros (RRP including transfer), is powered by a 46 hp in-line two-cylinder engine with 471 cm³. The CB 400 X is available in Japan from 826,100 yen, which is the equivalent of around 6,800 euros.

Conclusion

The Honda CB 400 X should be particularly suitable for motorcycle beginners based in Japan. Fortunately, Honda offers a very similar model in Europe with the CB 500 X, which is also suitable for A2.
