Honda CBR 400 R (2020)
Revised entry-level athlete for Japan
With the CBR 400 R, Honda has presented a new entry-level athlete that will initially only be available in Japan.
NOTafter the CB 400 X, Honda is now also relaunching the CBR 400 R for Japan. Similar to the adventure bike, the super sports bike is only available in Japan. In the rest of the world there is a very similar bike from Honda, the CBR 500 R. The Japanese manufacturer is taking a similar path with the aforementioned CB 400 X, which is available outside of Japan in a similar form as the CB 500 X. In the CBR 400 R, too, Honda relies on the parallel twin with 399 cm³, which is also installed in the CB 400 X and produces 45 hp and 38 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
Competition for the Ninja 250 and YZF-R3
Honda is obviously placing the new CBR 400 R as a competitor for motorcycles like the Ninja 250 and Ninja 400 from Kawasaki, the RC 390 from KTM and the YZF-R3 from Yamaha. In terms of design, chassis and ergonomics, the CBR 400 R is similar to its bigger sister, the CBR 500 R. Accordingly, the entry-level athlete is suitable for fans of a more sporty driving style.
Honda.
The Honda CBR 400 R will only be available in Japan.
The Honda CBR 400 R is not an unknown model in Japan. The bike was already on sale in Japan before – but with the 2020 version, the Japanese are redesigning the bike a little more elaborately and bringing it closer to the current Supersport models from Honda. Thanks to the optical adjustments, a relationship to Fireblade is now much easier to recognize. According to Honda, 17 liters should fit into the tank of the 400 series. Other features such as a digital display and LED lighting are also on board. Honda gives 785 mm for the seat height. The new Honda CBR 400 R will celebrate its market launch in Japan on July 31, 2020. The bike is offered in three color variants. Prices start at 808,500 yen, which is currently around 6,650 euros.
Conclusion
After the CB 400 X, Honda is bringing another bike that is exclusively offered in Japan, the CBR 400 R, up to date. It is not unlikely that Honda will continue this model strategy and equip more bikes with the new 400 parallel twin.
