Honda CRF 450 R presented for the 2017 model year

Crosser gets updates

After KTM presented a new generation of crossers in 2016, Honda is now striking back. The Honda CRF 450 R receives numerous updates for the 2017 model year.

The completely new Unicam engine has, similar to current super sports cars, an upward sloping inlet duct. For this, Honda had to lower the upper strut mount in the aluminum chassis so that the intake tract could be guided over it. That should bring more pressure and more spontaneous throttle response, important for acceleration and traction. The oil is no longer separated for the crankshaft drive and gearbox, but conventionally bunkered together in the crankcase. For the first time on a production motorcycle, Honda uses the Honda VS.RF 450 R for the model year 2017 a tank welded from titanium sheets.

Lighter and thinner-walled than plastic, it saves space. It is also astonishing that after two years, Honda is going back to a fork with steel instead of air suspension: the Honda CRF 450 R for model year 2017 has a 49er Showa fork with steel springs and damper inserts in both bars. This will please hobby riders who complained about the maintenance effort, reliability and adjustment problems of the air forks. The machine is supplied with a kick starter as standard, and an electric starter kit is available as an option. The price has not yet been calculated.
