Honda patent for electric Great Cub
With removable battery
Honda presented a concept bike for an E-Super Cub back in 2015, and the patent that has now been published was submitted in 2016. Let’s see how long it will take until the market start.
D.The patent has been filed with the US Patent Office, whereby the drawings do not refer to the motorcycle itself, but to the battery compartment. It is mounted at the lowest point in the frame of the Super Cub, which is still quite common. The small difference is made by a tilting mechanism that allows the battery to be removed, which of course makes the charging process much easier.
E-Super Cub could be successful
The battery case can be opened and tilted forward, making the battery more accessible. To reinsert the battery and to position it correctly, small supports on the back of the battery help.
Honda
In 2015 Honda presented a Super Cub with an electric motor as a concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show.
A patent does not immediately mean that the product will be launched on the market. However, this concept is supported by the fact that electrically powered scooters are already selling quite well on the European market – and in other parts of the world.
Conclusion
If the cult bike is offered at a reasonable price, the E-Super Cub could become an extremely popular two-wheeler for city dwellers and commuters worldwide. Because it can combine two trends – retro cult and two-wheeler with e-drive.
