Bagger-style motorcycles are actually rather cool country road cruisers. The American racing promoter MotoAmerica also lets the large two-cylinder units compete against each other on the racetrack. The first run rose on October 24, 2020.

MotoAmerica is the organization that is responsible for the AMA Superbike Championship in the USA and is chaired by ex-world champion Wayne Rainey. Now MotoAmerica has lured the increasingly popular excavator bikes onto the racetrack.

Under the title “Drag Specialties King of the Baggers” the machines with the sloping line and two suitcases at the rear competed in 2020 as part of the supporting program of the national Superbike championship in Laguna Seca. The excavator run over eight laps rose on October 24, 2020. There were 12 drivers at the start. These include ex-Superbike World Championship rider Ben Bostrom, AMA Superbike rider Josh Herrin and AMA Supersport champion Hayden Gillim. Mistress is already showing what the fans could expect on his Instagram account.

Only V2 are allowed to compete

MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey is really excited: “I can’t wait to see the backhoe bikes ride through the CorksScrew.” Rainey also sees a huge show for the fans. The champion of this class will be chosen after this first and only run.

Only motorcycles with large V2 engines are admitted to the excavator class. At the start there are teams that stand up Indian Challenger and of course a lot of Harley riders.

In the end, Tyler O’Hara had on one of S&S prepared Indian Challenger clearly ahead. The Californian won ahead of Hayden Gillim on a Vance & Hines-Harley-Davidson. Third place went to Frankie Garcia, who rode an Indian prepared by Roland Sands Design. All participants had fun. ” I haven’t seen people so enthusiastic about motorcycle racing for a long time. People jumped up and down and howled and roared. It was just fun doing a show with these guys”, commented Victor O’Hara.
