In Germany to date a total of 5500 units of the model have been made Kymco Downtown 125 / 350i are sold. Now the manufacturer saw the time had come to extensively revise the model. The 125cc unit was taken over unchanged from the predecessor, but otherwise hardly a stone was left unturned.

Brake system relies on German know-how
In terms of chassis technology, a completely new frame is used, with the importer MSA suggesting a technology transfer with a well-known German motorcycle manufacturer. In fact, the new Kymco Downtown is more manageable and sportier than its predecessor, the weight of 192 kilograms of the Kymco Downtown 350i is well concealed. The brake system also relies on German know-how, here a Bosch ABS with the latest sensor software was installed. Responsiveness and braking effect are impeccable and meet the demands of sport touring.
The most noticeable change to the predecessor, however, is the visually refreshed body, which impresses with its jagged design and a distinctive rear design inspired by the automotive sector, but also polarizes. With the exception of the halogen headlights, LED technology is used across the board for the lighting, and the information content of the cockpit has been supplemented by the display of the outside temperature and the current fuel consumption.

Two storage compartments in the front panel offer space for small items
The new Kymco Downtown does not show any nakedness when it comes to the standard touring scooter disciplines of storage space and comfort: The space is generous, the wind and weather protection appropriate for the vehicle segment. Two storage compartments in the front panel offer space for small items and accommodate a USB port, and two full-face helmets can be stored in the helmet compartment. Only the payload of 165 kilograms is far too low for a sporty scooter with travel ambitions.
Nevertheless, the new Kymco Downtown represents a coherent evolutionary step. For the light-powered scooter version, Kymco is asking for a price of 4699 euros including ancillary costs, the Kymco Downtown 350i can be purchased for 5599 euros. In view of what is on offer, a very attractive price.
