Kawasaki Z 650 at EICMA 2016

ER-6n successor

Redesigned, much lighter, beginner-friendly 650 twin than naked bike – the new Kawasaki Z 650 presented at EICMA 2016.

With the undisguised Z 650 Kawasaki officially presented the successor to the extremely popular two-cylinder ER-6n for the first time at EICMA. Kawasaki has not yet given any performance data for the Ninja 650, which was already shown at INTERMOT in Cologne and is powered by the same 649 cubic in-line twin-cylinder as the new Z 650. These are now known, so the new engine , which has now been brought to the Euro 4 standard, has 68 instead of the previous 72 hp, which should go hand in hand with more pressure in the medium speed range.

Manageable, given the enormous weight savings compared to the previous ER models. Thanks to the redesigned tubular space frame and the new swing arm, the Kawasaki Z 650 is said to be an incredible 19 kilos lighter than the ER-6n. The Z 650 should therefore be ready to drive and only weigh 187 kilograms when fueled. At 790 millimeters, the seat height is 15 mm lower, which makes the Z 650 even easier for beginners. As additional new equipment, the new Kawasaki Z 650 has also received an anti-slip clutch and an adjustable shift light.

New name with an old tradition

It is clear to manufacturers that the naked Kawasaki Z 650 should in future be seen more in the tradition of the established Z series. Hence the new model name Z 650 instead of ER-6n, analogous to the now “Ninja 650" baptized two-cylinder athlete sister model (previously ER-6f). The price of the new naked bike is not yet known, but it should be well below 7,000 euros.
