MotoGP - Dani Pedrosa's warning to HRC -

Pedrosa, whose destiny seemed inevitably linked to the HRC, has just issued a warning to the official team: "I have always thought of the future with Honda, but it is time to think of the present", indicates the Catalan driver in the Spanish press…

At 22, Dani Pedrosa’s destiny in MotoGP seemed ineluctably linked to the official Honda Repsol team: his entire sporting career (three world titles up for grabs!) Was made on the machines of the world’s leading manufacturer..

Its influential team manager, Alberto Puig (read), heads the official teams represented in the three categories: 125, 250 and MotoGP.

The young Barcelona driver did not hesitate to terminate the contract with his historic main sponsor (Movistar) in order to join the most prestigious team on the grid in 2005 alongside the American Nicky Hayden (read). A pure Honda product, the young prodigy therefore had the difficult task of succeeding Valentino Rossi, who took up the Yamaha challenge the previous year (read).

A difficult bet from which the little Spaniard did rather well last year by wearing the Honda Repsol colors high, especially after a dazzling victory in England in the Doctor’s "garden" (read).

But this year, no victory in Donington for n ° 26 but a modest 8th place, which is added to results below the expectations of the Spanish (read).

"It’s really very disappointing and I lose big points in the championship", regrets Dani, victim of a frustrating race not only because of the rain he hates, but also because of a mistake by his team:"before the race, I had several problems and had to change my bike because I had clutch problems. But on this bike we had a setting that was not the same in the dry and in the wet and the third was too long", explains the young Catalan.

Because the goal of Dani "Asimo" Pedrosa is indeed the supreme title … And if he declares in the Spanish press that the fight will be tough, the rider, generally very reserved, does not hesitate to blame his motorcycle and even talks about changing it: a shame for a model that was said to be designed for him! "It will be really difficult for the title. Not insurmountable, but very difficult", warns Pedro:"I was hoping the bike would be better this year and obviously it can’t go on like this. Since the first race there haven’t been any big improvements. However, I cannot stand idly by! I always thought about the future with the same brand, but now it’s about thinking about the present", says for the first time the official HRC…

A statement not to be taken lightly for the first builder: "you shouldn’t close the doors, but you shouldn’t think that there is only one option", adds Pedrosa who wants to make it clear that he will not continue in the future, with"something that is not so good"…

Currently third in the standings with 59 points behind, Pedrosa is not the only one having problems with the RCV212: his team-mate world champion, the American Nicky Hayden, is only in twelfth place overall. , despite recent developments in the chassis and exhausts. And in the "satellite" teams, the revolt is also rumbling: Checa recently declared "never having had such a bad feeling with a motorcycle"while Melandri, without forgetting Nakano, do not know what to change on their 800 to improve their performance…

A trend that is difficult for Honda to reverse, but which risks costing it dearly. Because if many pilots of the first world manufacturer are reassured by thinking of next year, Pedrosa has still not signed his contract for 2008….

It is however still too early to conclude anything from this, because it is hard to imagine Pedrosa slamming the door of the HRC … and therefore his mentor Alberto Puig! The same Puig who sees his ex-protege Casey Stoner prancing at the head of the races and the championship, and whose superiority Dani readily salutes: "Casey is having the best moment of his sports career", considers his ex-rival in the 250 category…
