Guintoli: do whatever it takes to be ahead !
With the last event of the year in Valence this weekend, the time has come to take stock. Sylvain Guintoli, tenth in the 250 world championship, was kind enough to answer our questions, allowing us to discover a young man poised and full of the future ! Meet.
Sylvain Guintoli, Team Equipe de France Scrab driver on Aprilia, is about to join his Continental Circus comrades for the last time of the year in Valence.
A final event which will see him consolidate his tenth place in the general classification – and first in the private classification !
Despite a busy schedule (the 2006 season has already started), Sylvain gave us an interview during which we perceive a young man applied, serene and promising…
Moto-Net: In 2003, you achieved a nice 4th place in Valence (read) while last year, you gave up after a high side (read) … This weekend, what is your ambition for the final ?
Sylvain Guintoli: Above all, my goal is to win the title of best private! It’s important for the team. I am now 20 points ahead of my direct pursuer so no pressure, I’m going to go there to have fun.
Moto-Net: Could you, in a few words, present this Valencia circuit ?
S. G .: Valencia is like a giant karting circuit! However, the layout remains very nice with a 250. You have to keep a lot of pace and the turns follow one another very quickly without any respite..
Moto-Net: How did you find the Istanbul route (read) ?
S. G .: The Istanbul circuit is really superb. For me, it’s one of the most beautiful of the season … we can’t wait to go back to 2006 !
Moto-Net: This year you scored points at almost every GP. Where does this regularity come from? ?
S. G. Apart from Jerez (broken candle) and Mugello (hit by Smrz), it’s true that we had a regular season. I think it’s because I knew how to focus on our goals … Everything in good time! This year, we are first in "our category" and I also owe it to the reliability of my team. !
Moto-Net: You are almost guaranteed your 10th place in the championship: that corresponded to your objectives ?
S. G .: Of course ! At the start of the season our goals were to be private first and when we can, eat factory bikes! This year, of the 13 official machines entered, four are behind us in the championship as well as all the other private ones. !
Moto-Net: What are your plans for 2006 ?
S. G .: We have factory motorcycle projects in 250, which would be the next logical step. I wish to continue this adventure with my current team. The atmosphere is really nice and especially the staff have the shoulders to operate an official motorcycle !
Moto-Net: Pedrosa, De Puniet and maybe Stoner "go up" in MotoGP next year … Who will be your three favorites in 250 ?
S. G .: For the moment, the deal is not yet complete but I think De Angelis, Lorenzo and Dovisiozo will be my most formidable opponents !
Moto-Net: And you in relation to them, where do you stand ?
S. G .: You’ll have to do what it takes to be in front of them…
Finally by his own admission, Sylvain "likes to go for a ride on Moto-Net from time to time": so do not hesitate to give him your encouragement !
