Replenishment for the next generation: In the run-up to EICMA, Yamaha presented a significantly revised MT-03 for the 2020 model year.

Slowly but surely one notices that the EICMA, at which traditionally most of the motorcycle innovations for the coming year are presented, is getting closer and closer. Various manufacturers are also increasingly using the time immediately before the trade fair in Milan to present new models – this is also the case Yamaha for the MT-03, which has been extensively revised for the 2020 model year.

New look, already known engine

At first glance, most observers should first notice the new look of the Yamaha MT-03. The front of the naked bike in particular has been thoroughly revised and is now based on the larger sister models. Two position lights are arranged at an angle on the new model. An LED headlight is attached in the middle and under the front panel. LED indicators complement the position lights and headlights and contribute to the new look. Thanks to the new lighting elements, the entry-level bike looks much more radical and aggressive.

Yamaha

The new Yamaha MT-03 will be at dealerships from December 2019.

With the engine everything seems to stay the same. The 2020 variant is also powered by a two-cylinder engine with 321 cm³. Yamaha does not mention any performance data in the press release and does not speak of a new engine, which is why it can be assumed that not much has changed in terms of the engine. Incidentally, the drive of the previous model developed 42 hp at 10,750 rpm and 30 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Thus the bike is still suitable for owners of the A2 driving license. What is new, however, is a 37mm upside-down telescopic fork, which is intended to improve handling. The spring of the rear shock absorber has also become a little tighter, which should also have a positive effect on the driving characteristics.

From December at dealers

The tank, which has also been redesigned and is intended to provide an optimized seating position compared to its predecessor, still fits 14 liters. The higher-mounted handlebars should also ensure improved ergonomics. In addition, Yamaha donated the 2020 MT-03 new LCD instruments. The new Yamaha MT-03 will be available from dealers in December 2019 in the colors "Ice Fluo", "Icon Blue" and "Midnight Black". The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 5,499 euros (plus additional costs).
