Lorenzo and Rossi dominate MotoGP test day in Brno
The holidays are well over for the MotoGP riders who, after racing two weekends in a row, were treated to a Monday of practice! Champion Lorenzo set the best time ahead of his teammate Rossi and the leader of provisional Marquez.
Lorenzo is reassured, Rossi and Marquez ensure
Just recovered from their emotions of Sunday (will certainly be remembered!), The pilots got back in the saddle yesterday for testing. Michelin, in particular, had two slick front tires to validate for the 2017 season.
Blocked in their box in the morning due to the cleaning of the track – the downpours of the day before had spilled piles of dirt on the asphalt – and slowed down at the beginning of the afternoon until the trajectories became quite clean, the pilots were still able to take advantage of the good conditions to carry out their tests…
Last in the race on Sunday, Jorge Lorenzo left the Brno circuit at the top of the timesheet (see page 2). "Winning" these post-race practice is little consolation for the third man in the championship (138 points), but it is all the same.
"It was different from this weekend, this time we were able to test a lot of things", declares the n ° 99 of the Yamaha team without further details …"We have tested the two new Michelin tires and I find them better than the standard", he concludes, specifying this time that they"provide more stability and more grip when cornering".
Good news for this talented driver whose style is very fluid and super fast – especially in curves! – requires this type of tire … with the M1 at least! What will happen next year at the helm of the Desmosedici GP17? ?
Monday in the sun, on the track
In all, the reigning world champion completed 43 laps. His best time of the day (1’55.394) is much better than the one slammed by (1’54.596) but it doesn’t matter: he secures first place in practice !
Beaten by four small tenths by his teammate, Valentino Rossi is certainly not defeated: "in the end, it was a very good test because personally, we were able to test a lot of things in terms of the chassis and the swingarm that I like a lot", rejoices the new n ° 46 n ° 2 provisionally (144 points).
Very satisfied with the new parts that he experienced during 60 laps, the Doctor has not yet decided if he will graft them onto his M1 for the next races. The nine-time world champion has also "a little worked on electronics", but especially appreciated the new Michelin tires, like Lorenzo…
"Michelin had also provided us with two new front tires, unfortunately their arrival is only scheduled for next year.", Vale regrets."I really like these tires, because with them I gain in speed and feeling". Is the Bibendum on the right track? ?
For his part, Marc Marquez does not elaborate on the issue of new tires, which he reports having worn but without publicly expressing his feelings. Just like Dani Pedrosa – who will try these tires next time, I promise! -, Marc had other priorities for this test…
"We spent a good deal of our time trying to figure out why the bike stood up so much out of a turn and we were able to collect a lot of data, some positive and some a little less.", explains the – large – leader of the championship (197 points).
The n ° 93 of the Honda Repsol team was also able to unveil a new swingarm "who could help us on certain circuits. We’re going to keep this tight, but for now we’ll continue with the one we’ve been using so far". Certainly perfectible, the RCV would ultimately not be that bad ?
We note while peeling the timesheets on Monday that the new record holder of the lap in Brno has not managed to descend once only under 1’56 in 46 laps, while Lorenzo has succeeded six times and Rossi three. If a race had been organized yesterday in the dry, would Marquez necessarily have finished 15 seconds behind the Yamaha? We doubt it…
