Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZZ (2019) in the test

A lot of boisterous naked bike

The Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZZ is one of three models with which Morini wants to succeed. How does the 2019 model fare in the test?

Moto Morini, what a sonorous name from the 1970s. The beautifully drawn 3 1/2 with its toothed belt V2 still inspires connoisseurs today. An early masterpiece by the engineer Franco Lambertini. In the 2000s, he designed a boisterous 1200, which has only found few buyers to this day. That should be different now, because heard for a few months M.oto Morini to the Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Zhongneng, who, with technology and design from Europe and Chinese diligence, would like to make the small-series manufacturer a serious player in the motorcycle business again.

The ZZ weighs 197 kilograms dry

To this end, the 1200 models have been revised: the 116 hp Milano, the 139 hp Corsaro ZT and the top model, the Corsaro 1200 ZZ. The once wild drunkard finally had to be taught manners for the Euro 4 regulations. A more voluminous exhaust system, a much better and more sensitively coordinated injection and a solid and reliable Bosch ABS legalize the unusual 87-degree V2. But it still sounds robust and thunders out of the two boldly designed bags under the rear. Compared to a similarly positioned Ducati Monster, you sit much sportier and more gathered. The Corsaro, which weighs 197 kilograms when dry, also feels much more light-footed. There is very little weight on the front wheel – all you need to do is turn the accelerator vigorously in the lower gears and the front wheel shoots skyward.

Morini Motorcycle

The Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZZ is available from 19,900 euros.

But it is also due to the still bearish engine despite all attempts at taming it. It tears in the middle to such an extent that one is scared and anxious. At the same time, it is a veritable short-stroke engine: the thick 107 pistons run up and down only 66 millimeters, the crankshaft itself has little flywheel. Thanks to the successful set-up, the V2 pulls hard and soft on the chain from 1,800 rpm.

Not a real bargain

For the first time, the Mupo company supplies series forks and struts for the Morini. These work great! Buttery soft response, smooth cushioning, unbelievable reserves and perfectly selected springs. No bottoming out even on the worst bumps, no banging of the handlebars, but still decent driving comfort. In addition, the tried and tested Pirelli Diablo Rosso III claw into the crumbly asphalt and tried and tested Brembos take care of the delay. A solid thing. The workmanship is impressive – finely welded tubular space frame, aluminum tank, pretty forged wheels, programmable TFT color display, well-made the verse and fittings. For 19,900 euros, the Corsaro ZZ is not a special offer either. Those who like it 4,000 euros cheaper can order the Corsaro 1200 ZT with round headlights and plastic instead of carbon parts. Where? So far directly in the factory, there is no German importer yet.

Conclusion

With a new owner, Moto Morini finally wants to gain a foothold again. The technical basis is the wild 1200 V2 engine that drove the Morini years ago. In the test, the 2019 Corsaro made a solid impression and knew how to please. However, the ZZ is not a real bargain at 19,900 euros
