New Victory Octane – Price and Specifications
Lighter, stronger, cheaper
Lighter, cheaper and with the new, 104 hp V2 – this is how the new Victory Octane also wants to convince European motorcyclists who have not previously felt addressed by American bikes.
According to the press release, the new Victory Octane is a "modern interpretation of a muscle bike that will change the way European bikers think of American motorcycles." What is the common European’s idea of American motorcycles? We do not want to make a general statement at this point. Instead, we quote a colleague who we know is not (yet) a big fan of American bikes: “My idea of American motorcycles? They are always difficult. As if that were a value in and of itself. ”Words like chrome, long, lame, uncomfortable, unwilling to turn corners are still used. Motorcyclists with such views would like to change their minds with the new Victory Octane. Not an impossible undertaking, as the data shows.
At 243 kilograms (ready to drive and with a full tank), the new Victory Octane is 59 kilograms lighter than the lightest Victory available in Germany to date, the Vegas (302 kg). And the cheapest: the Americans are calling for 12,950 euros. So far, the Victory entry with the Gunner was 13,490 euros. In addition, the Octane will be the strongest Victory in the current range.
What does Harley-Davidson offer in this price and displacement class? Sportster 1200, Seventy-Two and Forty-Eight. They weigh between 252 and 268 kilograms and cost between 12,145 and 12,425 euros – so far, so competitive. But if you want more than just under 70 hp, you look into the void. Or over at Victory.
Engine of the new Victory Octane
The new V2 is known to us from the Project 156, keyword mountain race Pikes Peak. Due to the great similarity, we assume that we also know the liquid-cooled V2 from the Indian Scout – in the new Victory, however, with 2 millimeters more bore (101 mm) with the same stroke (73.6 mm). In the Octane it should “easily” provide 104 hp and deliver 99 Newton meters of torque to the rear wheel. In addition, an electronic throttle, electronic injection with 60 mm throttle valve, briefly translated six-speed gearbox – according to the manufacturer, the Victory Octane should go from 0 to 100 km / h faster than any other Victory before. The manufacturer does not tell us how many seconds it is. Isn’t that what a cruiser is about? Well, if the Octane wants to “change the way European bikers think of American motorcycles”, then it’s about values like these.
Chrome doesn’t make you faster
Let’s get to the optics: "Chrome doesn’t make you faster", it says in the press release. Right. Is that a reason to leave out chrome? In any case, the Victory Octane manages without shiny components. The engine and chassis are completely black, the matt finish is called "Super Steel Gray". And it is more angular. Whether Gunner, Hammer, High Ball, Judge or Vegas – round, curved shapes dominate the Victory palette. This breaks the new Octane, rolling on with corners and edges – which not only looks refreshing on the tank and fairing, but also looks good on the new V2.
Will this all mean that said colleague will soon become a fan of an American bike? We don’t know, but we suggest that he do a test drive with the Octane and report back as soon as possible.
Price and availability
The new Victory Octane will be available at dealers at the end of March and will cost 12,950 euros (in Austria: 15,110 euros including NoVA). The first 100 buyers (including pre-orders) receive an engine cover with the “Project 156” logo for their Octane.
