By winning his second MotoGP title at just 21 years old and 237 days old for his second season in, Marc Marquez became on Sunday at Motegi the youngest double world champion in the premier class of the Grand Prix (read our). The Spaniard looks back on his 4th world title in an interview with his Honda-Repsol team.

What was most difficult: winning the title or your ten consecutive victories at the start of the season ?

"To tell the truth, the mistakes I had made in the last races (eliminating fall in, fall and 13th place in, Editor’s note) really make me appreciate my victory in the world championship because the first part of the season had been very good but the title seemed to take a long time to arrive … I made some mistakes, maybe because of overconfidence as I had a lot of lead. These victories have me offered the luxury of being able to take more risks. But it’s clear that I wanted the title here at Honda (the Motegi circuit was built by the winged crest in 1997, Editor’s note), and it was fantastic ".

You’ve won four titles in the past five years. Do you feel like your career is going very fast ?

Congratulations from the leaders of the HRC

"I am very, very, very happy!" Said Shuhei Nakamoto, vice president of HRC. "I was so nervous before the race. I want to thank all the Honda fans for their support and all our sponsors. I especially want to thank Marc for another World Championship title.".

Asked about the instructions that could have been given to n ° 93 before the race so that he locks the title, Nakamoto replied with a smile: "I don’t give any, because it never works! Marc is intelligent, he understands on its own and does not need advice ".

For his part Livio Suppo, director of the Honda-Repsol team, remembers above all that it is "the first time in history that Honda has won the world championship in Japan and it is therefore really special. Marc did amazing job as always. He proved once again that he is very smart, besides being very fast. He had to finish ahead of Vale and Dani and that is what he did. He really deserves this title, he had an incredible season and now we are going to savor the last three races (Australia next week, followed by Malaysia then the final in Valencia in early November) ".

"I don’t realize it. Right now I’m having fun and that’s the most important because you never know what tomorrow has in store for us. We won the title and we’re going to celebrate, like we do it for every win. It’s great to share this joy with the team ".

What do you remember from each of your titles ?

"Each title is obviously special, they all have their moments. In 125 cc it was my first title and it was always very exciting. It was also more difficult because I had to win the last race. In Moto2, it was ‘was a satisfaction after the anger I had had over what had happened the year before that I had been injured for five months. My first year in MotoGP was a huge surprise and this new title is there to thank Honda for allowing me to take my whole team to the garage, to bring everyone together and create an excellent atmosphere in our box ".

How have you progressed since last year ?

Emilio Alzamora’s impressions

"This is an important day for the whole team, for Honda, for Repsol and for all those who support Marc. The championship has been incredible. I will remember those two, last year’s title and this one. . Marc will now be able to celebrate with his brother and his family, ”explains the man who is both manager and mentor of Marc Marquez.

"Marc is a very experienced rider but I always try to give him advice. This time he knew what he had to do. We had to focus on the warm-up, find a good rhythm and stay calm. before the race. He had to put Lorenzo aside and focus on Valentino and Dani, and that’s what he did. ".

"It was natural to feel the pressure. It was at Honda and there were the two mistakes of Misano and Aragón. In the first part of the race he couldn’t attack as he wanted and it made the race a little more complicated, but Marc then showed a lot of intelligence ".

“We always try to improve in all aspects but it is true that I adapted much better in terms of the rider package. We developed the chassis by focusing more on my riding style and that helped me to improve better as a rider, without really wanting to improve the bike itself ".

How will you approach the last three races of the season ?

"With the desire to please me. I know that the title of vice-champion is at stake and that the other drivers (Pedrosa and Rossi, currently tied for second place, as well as Lorenzo who is 3 points behind, Editor‘s note) will give everything, but I’m going to concentrate on doing my best and enjoying each race ".

Where will you find the motivation to go for another title next year ?

"You find motivation everywhere, especially after this year. You have to try to keep this level and the team will also help me by pushing me to continue".

Do you think your brother Alex will win the Moto3 World Championship ?

"It’s his intention (especially since, Editor‘s note)! I’m going to help him by encouraging him as best as possible. We must especially take the pressure off him because being at the top of the standings is a great source of pressure. that he remains calm to manage the situation well but I know that the season is long and with three more races, anything can happen ".
