Suzuki SV 650 Cafe Racer

The transformation

D.he idea was obvious", says Jochen Schmitz-Link-weiler, head of LSL-Motorradtechnik in Krefeld. "Louis has practically all of our parts in its range. And the rights to the name ‘Cafe Racer’. So I suggested that
let’s make a snappy cafe racer with the help of these shares
the Louis range."
Said and done. And well done. Also because Schmitz-Linkweiler used on a basis for his project that couldn’t be cheaper. Basis of the racer in "Racing Yellow" is namely Suzuki’s mid-range Evergreen SV 650. And it is known to be blessed with a lot that belongs to the sporty country road racer.
In particular, of course, with a V2, which even in the umpteenth model year no other drive in this displacement class can hold a candle to. In this regard, there was just as little need for action as with the chassis, because for the,
what the Krefelder had in mind is the SV chassis
well equipped. "I love country motorcycles without any
Disguise and frills. Simply a sporty one
Sitting position and clear lines", the LSL boss describes the thrust.
In fact, the driving experience on the Cafe Racer differs significantly from a series SV. It’s sporty – but not uncomfortable. In addition to the sport match handlebar halves from LSL, the main reason is the footrest system. It was precisely in this area that the Cafe Racer’s only weakness was revealed. The shift linkage does not harmonize with the manifold routing of the BSM exhaust system. Sometimes the second gear could not be engaged because the gear lever did not return to the starting position. But especially the exhaust system with its raised silencers provides a very special touch. The short silencers (with approval for the CBR 125, not
but for the SV) as well as the rear indicators and the mirrors did not receive a TÜV approval. And the hump bowl
will soon be available from LSL as a blank with a material certificate, but without an attachment kit.
If you don’t want to wait that long, you can still start the conversion straight away. All other parts (see box) are available from Louis. And the BSM exhaust is also available with legal mufflers, which are, however, seven centimeters longer and therefore not so good for the lines
of the crisp rear fit – the side covers are missing, the battery is smaller, so that the otherwise visible cables can be laid inside. That would do the driving fun with the Cafe Racer
certainly no break. In front of the cafe, however, would
perhaps less two-wheeled pedestrians stop, rub their eyes in fascination and ask in amazement: "So what is that?" And admire a Cafe Racer, his
At around 2800 euros, Genese is in an absolutely manageable framework and has retained all the functional advantages of the SV 650 despite the transformation. dry
