Italjet dragster

Production starts, imports regulated

Italjet brings the dragster back. At EICMA 2019, the Italians presented the new edition of the cult scooter with stub axle steering again. After a change of importer, the scooters should finally come to Germany from autumn 2020.

Between 1998 and 2003, the small Italian manufacturer I.taljet the original dragster in the program. It was the first series-production scooter to have a stub axle steering, which it combined with two- and four-stroke engines with up to 22 hp. There was also a delicious tubular space frame.

With up to 19.8 hp

At EICMA 2018, the Italians built on their past for the first time and presented the new Italjet dragster. At this year’s EICMA, almost exactly a year later, the scooters can be seen again on the Italjet stand. And in 2020 they should finally roll out onto the streets.

The new Italjet is back with a tubular space frame and a stub axle steering. Overall, the new design looks even more airy, technical and sporty than the original model, in which the new dragster is closely based on the design. The new dragster will be available with either a 125 four-stroke or a 200. The basic unit has 14.9 hp and 12.5 Nm, the 200 version has 19.8 hp and 17 Nm. The power is always transmitted via a CVT transmission and a belt drive.

Sporty sweaters size

At the front, the single-sided swing arm has a 12-inch wheel with a 120/70 tire. At the back there is a 13-inch wheel that carries a fat 140/60 tire. Brake power is provided by a 200 mm disc brake at the front, and the disc also measures 200 mm in diameter at the rear. The 125 comes with a combination brake, the 200 has ABS. When it comes to weight, the two are 4 kilograms (108 to 112 kg) apart.

The lying rear shock absorber is supported directly on the drive train swing arm. The strut for the front wheel sits in the footwell between the frame tubes and is supported by a deflector.

First 499 copies with special painting

Italjet sales in Germany, Austria and Slovenia were originally supposed to run through Zupine. The company based in Traunreut has since terminated the contracts with Italjet. The Austrian KSR Group is now responsible for sales on the markets in Germany, Austria, France and Greece. But even they cannot yet name any prices for the German market.

After a corona-related delay, production should start in autumn 2020. Then the first 499 copies will be produced, which can look forward to a special paintwork. The special paint is mostly black, and some golden color elements are also present. A special logo can also be seen at various points on the bike. Production of the series models will then begin.

As mentioned, the first edition will be limited to 499 copies, all of which, according to the President, are already out of print. The reservations came from 20 countries. As soon as the order books were open, they could be closed again. The prices for the 125cc variant in Italy start at 4,900 euros. The Dragster 200 costs at least 5,400 euros in Italy. Both models are standard in the color variants "Gray / orange", "Anthracite / red / white" and "Anthracite / yellow" give.
