Suzuki Bandit 650 ABS test

Bandit reissue

An institution like the Suzuki Bandit 650 cannot be written off from a recently launched Yamaha XJ6. Watch out, friends, what else the middle-class patroness has in store.

When motorcycles are called Bandit, it might be childish, but there’s nothing to laugh about. Especially considering the booty Suzuki is taking on motorcycles called Bandit. What have the opponents already encountered, both in the middle and in the upper displacement environment. But the box office hit is catching customers everywhere. And even the rival Honda clan, who landed the really big coup with the CBF 600, didn’t get the bandit down. Again and again there are reports of an upcoming, even better, even cheaper Bandit version. Now there is a new 650? is it [called. Not true, at least not entirely, but who cares? In fact, the evergreen has been thrown out a bit: the nose freshly polished, the engine wrapped in black, the chops on the tank cut softer, the rear sharpened. Pure eye powder for those who might fall in love with Yamaha’s lively XJ6, which is 30 kilos lighter, twice as perky and also equipped with ABS. Moving away from clear expression to modern casualness: With this in mind, the edges of the Bandit were broken and classic softened shapes. So the headlight is now dripping from the face of the Nackedei, instead of looking round and healthy into the world.

What is internal in the company is shown by a modernized instrument unit which (brand new) even provides information about the gear that is engaged. It’s a shame that they missed installing a reserve odometer on this occasion. So if you are not careful, after the emergency ration has opened in the tank, you will not know how long your commodity will last. ?? Peanuts! ?? we hear the sworn bandit society now whisper and we can’t even contradict them. Because essentially the 650 remains a solid medium-sized company. And when we talk about the essentials of this successful model, we are talking about a lot of the engine: four huge cylinders, a gigantic gearbox, 86 HP of the full fat stage and a torque wave on which you can be completely relaxed from Trubendorf to Timbuktu.

The thing with the gear indicator is nice in that it turns you north when earthly obstacles force you to downshift, which the stubborn transmission strictly refuses to do at first. It only gives up its position emphatically, then hangs around in some kind of idle state and merely submits to violence. Doesn’t actually match the gentle character of the otherwise so good-natured engine. The chassis sprints. It steers, it brakes, it springs, it dampens? A bit soft at the front and too hard at the back, but suitable for two people. The handling is also okay for a 250 kilo Brummer, but not for a mid-range motorcycle. You can feel the excess weight at every turn. Funny: In terms of body mass, the Bridgestone BT 020 tires feel like Schwarzenegger is walking on tiptoe in ballet shoes. And now please, please, finally ask for the price. That’s the bandit’s favorite topic. N / A…? Exactly: 6690 toads! Are 205 euros advantage over the Yamaha XJ6. Bingo! It remains exciting. There will be a showdown in the next issue.
