Kawasaki W800 comeback

48 hp for two variants

Stricter emissions standards and a lack of ABS sealed the end of the Kawasaki W800 in Europe in 2016. In 2019, however, the classic will return, Kawasaki announced at EICMA.

Still gives Kawasaki pretty nebulous as far as the technical data of the new W800 is concerned, but images and some features were named and known during the announcement at EICMA.

48 hp for the new Kawasaki W800

The new Kawasaki W800 will again have a 773 cm³ two-cylinder with camshafts driven by vertical shafts. The new Euro4-compatible engine should look like the old one, but Kawasaki promises 90 percent new components. In terms of power, the W800 power unit will be limited to 48 hp.

The new twin in the old look is combined with a completely new tubular steel chassis. In line with requirements, this naturally has ABS and a disc brake on the rear wheel for the first time. The lighting will be based on LED technology.

The new Kawasaki W800 will be available in two versions – W800 Street and W800 Cafe – the latter, like the Z 900 RS Cafe, with a small half-shell fairing. More information will follow in 2019.
