Triumph Tiger 850 Sport

New basic model for the series

Triumph is expanding the Tiger family with an 850 Sport, which will serve as the new basic model in selected markets. But she doesn’t come to Germany.

The new Triumph Tiger 900 is available as a road-oriented GT version, as an all-rounder and as a rally. The model family will continue to grow in the future. As already emerged from documents of the US environmental protection agency EPA, in which new models have to be listed in terms of consumption data, Triumph has reported a new Tiger 850 Sport.

Three-cylinder throttled to 85 hp

The basis for the Tiger 850 Sport is the Tiger 900. From it the Tiger 850 Sport also exercises the 888 cm³ in-line three-cylinder. In the 850, however, it is only allowed to produce 85 hp and 82 Nm. An A2-compatible version is also to be offered. The power reduction takes place exclusively via the mapping. The motor hardware remains untouched. The 900 comes with 95 hp and 87 Nm. Because less power means less stress on the engine, Triumph has increased the maintenance intervals to 16,000 kilometers.

The 850 Sport is basically a stripped-down Tiger 900.

No changes compared to the 900, including in the chassis area. The Sport uses a 19-inch wheel with 100/90 tires at the front and a 17-inch wheel with 150/70 tires at the rear. The high-quality Brembo brake system is carried over from the 900. In return, the electronic equipment is cut. The 850 carries the 5-inch display of the 900 GT, but comes without connectivity features. The driving modes Road and Rain, traction control that can be switched off, LED lighting and LED daytime running lights as well as a USB socket in the cockpit are available.

For selected markets only

The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is available in the color combinations gray / red and gray-blue. In the UK, the Tiger 850 Sport, priced at £ 9,300, pushes the entry barrier into the Tiger family by £ 200. With the launch of the Tiger 850 Sport, the 900 base model will also no longer be available in the corresponding markets. As usual with Triumph, the new basic Tiger can also be extensively upgraded with factory accessories. Basically all parts of the 900s fit.

The Tiger 850 Sport can be extensively upgraded with accessories.

And as already mentioned: Triumph will not initially offer the Tiger 850 Sport on the German and Austrian markets. Here the British continued to rely on the well-known 900 models.

Conclusion

The expected fun bike for the road ultimately turns out to be a new basic model of the Tiger series for price-sensitive markets. With a little less equipment and a little less performance, the price also drops.
