Pedrosa’s injuries jeopardize his start to the season

MotoGP - Pedrosa's injuries compromise his start to the season - Three weeks of recovery and a month without bending his left leg!

Following his fall in Qatar, the Spanish will have to heal his wounds for nearly a month. After two well-cut testing sessions this winter, Pedrosa will not participate in the final tests in Jerez and will approach the start of the season in bad shape….

Three weeks of convalescence and one month without bending the left leg !

The ace ! It seems that fate is hanging on the shoulders of the hope of the world’s leading manufacturer: forced to reduce its test program following a fall at Sepang this winter, Dani Pedrosa again badly damaged his arm and left knee after losing the back of his machine during recent tests in Qatar (read)…

Operated at the Universitari Dexeus Institute from which he should come out early next week, the Honda official underwent two surgeries, the first having required the trifle of three hours and a skin graft taken from his thigh … His doctor , Dr Bartolome Ferreira, indicated that he should remain resting three weeks after healing and that he could normally bend his leg within a month.

A worrying diagnosis which de facto rules out any participation in the last pre-season tests in Jerez on March 28 and 29. The driver could even be ordered to attend the first race of the season, on April 12 in Qatar, from the box of the official Honda team….

"We plan to work hard and be back for the first race in Qatar, but we’ll have to make sure I’m fit enough to get back on the bike."said Pedrosa at a press conference before confirming his absence from Jerez’s test.

"My goal is to try to be on point for the first race. It’s a difficult situation, but we have no choice but to react and continue our work. I have crashed many times and always fought to come back, and that’s what I will do once again. We will be back at the top level, but it is true that I have some concerns for this preseason. We can’t change much: we just have to keep moving forward", comments with fatalism the world n ° 3, who will have participated in only three days of full testing this year !

Accustomed to treating Pedrosa, Dr Xavier Mir agrees with his patient, even if Pedrosa’s recovery capacities and his usual tenacity should accelerate the convalescence: “we are optimistic, but we are not sure he will be ready for the first race”, Says Dr. Mir, stressing that“in professional athletes, recovery times are generally shorter, so Dani’s situation should change quickly”.

Forced to move around on crutches, little Asimo from HRC will have to chomp on the ground and leave the latest developments in the official bike to his young teammate, Andrea Dovizioso. A delicate situation for Honda, aware of the inexperience of its Italian colt: "Dovi" has so far been less comfortable with its factory RCV than with a "Satellite" model last season….

Something to worry a little more about a Dani Pedrosa who is attacking his fourth season in the premier class and whose progression curve – admittedly punctuated by flattering results – has not exactly followed the expected trajectory…

Will the Spanish prodigy manage to reverse a trend that promises to be badly started, in order to bring back the supreme title to an employer who has been impatient since the coronation of Nicky Hayden in 2006? To be continued … Stay connected !
