For the National Day, Mike di Meglio would gladly sound the Marseillaise on the Sachsenring … Unless Bradl or Cortese make the patriotic vibe vibrate to be the first German to win at the Sachsenring ? Round by round !

We have to go back to 1994 to find the last German victory on German soil: at that time, the Continental Circus was still stopping at the Nurburgring and Dirk Raudies had won there brilliantly..

But the Sachsenring, integrated into the world championship a few seasons later, has so far always eluded its local representatives…

Alternating hot and cold since the start of the season, Sandro Cortese and Stefan Bradl keep their fingers crossed that their home race plays in their favor: after all, this year Mike di Meglio has won well at Le Mans, Simone Corsi at Mugello and Scott Redding in Donington! However, before hearing the German anthem resound on the 3.6 km circuit, Bradl and Cortese will already have to counter the return of Talmacsi, the speed of Smith and consistency of Mike di Meglio….

Zoom on…

The return of Gabor Talmacsi : in delicacy with his official RSA since the start of the season, the current world champion seems to have regained his colors following his Dutch victory (read). Despite everything, his comeback in the championship will be laborious and many wonder why his manager Apsar Martinez did not raise him to 250 after his title acquired last year….

Between the hot afternoon heat and the night rains, the little princes of the world championship will not manage to break the records of previous years: author of the pole position on Saturday, the returning Gabor Talmacsi sets a time of 1 ‘ 27.552 more than seven tenths from his 2006 pole !

Behind the Hungarian stand Bradley Smith, Stefan Bradl, Simone Corsi, Joan Olive and Mike di Meglio.

The race !

Departure : The race is declared "dry", but the whole field has their gaze fixed on the skies not so clement after another night shower … Stefan Bradl carries out the hole shot in front of Bradley Smith, Simone Corsi and Joan Olive.

Gabor Talmacsi totally missed his start, while Mike di Meglio appears in 8th place. Simone Corsi passes Joan Olive and Bradley Smith who is passed by the Spaniard in the wake !

2nd round : Simone Corsi vacuum then brakes at Bradl and begins the loop in the lead! Joan Olive and Bradley Smith do not miss a beat right behind, but can not try anything. Mike di Meglio, who does not seem able to return at the moment, loses several places.

3rd, 4th and 5th rounds : Joan Olive passes Bradl on the last left while the current world champion gradually returns by setting the fastest lap in the race. Joan Olive hoists his Derbi in front of Simone Corsi’s Aprilia, but it is ultimately Stefan Bradl who surprises the two men by throwing himself in first position in the first corner of the layout! Jules Cluzel makes a mistake and has to throw in the towel a few laps later.

Gabor Talmacsi is almost back in contact with the leading men, with Nicolas Terol and Mike di Meglio in his wake. The n ° 1 performs an anthology exterior on Joan Olive in a long right !

6th and 7th rounds : Simone Corsi takes over the reins of the Grand Prix thanks to the aspiration phenomenon ahead of Bradl, Smith, Talmacsi, Olive, Di Meglio and Nicolas Terol at several lengths. The leading men fight like ragpickers: we feel that Gabor Talmacsi is ready to do anything to get past his opponents! Stefan Bradl regains the advantage in the big right downhill, followed like his shadow by Smith who ends up winning under braking from the pit straight.

8th, 9th and 10th laps : Smith is ahead of Corsi, Bradl, Di Meglio, Talmacsi … and the unfortunate Joan Olive whose machine seems to give up the ghost in the pit straight! The Derbi seems to be able to start again, but the n ° 6 has taken a considerable delay.

Bradley Smith and Simone Corsi take the loose: they are now almost a second ahead of Bradl, Di Meglio and Talmacsi.

11th and 12th rounds : Mike finds color with the few drops of rain which fall on the German track: he overflows the local Stefan Bradl in a mouse hole and places his Derbi in 3rd place. Comfortable in wet conditions, the young Englishman Bradley Smith prances at the head of the race and lets go lap after lap his pursuer Simone Corsi, who will also soon have to deal with the return of his opponent to the championship: the French Mike di Meglio !

"I passed him on the descent and he passed me by braking just in front of me: it pissed me off a little and I passed him again in a place where it is not done, it was a suicidal attack but I wanted to show him that we shouldn’t do dirt on me !", explains Mike after the race.

13th, 14th, 15th and 16th laps : The n ° 63 is now second behind Bradley Smith. Turning seven tenths faster than n ° 38, Mike di Meglio comes back like a cannonball on the leader! The two pilots are ahead of Bradl and Gabor Talamacsi, who can not pass the German.

17th and 18th round : Back in Smith’s exhausts, "Magic Mike" thrills the whole of France on the eve of the National Day! He passes Bradley Smith inside a quick right, the English fights … but must give in to the rhythm of the French! Smith was even attacked by a raging Bradl in front of his home crowd as the rain intensified with nine laps to go…

19th and 20th and 21st laps : Mike widened a slight gap on Stefan Bradl, Bradley Smith and Gabor Talmacsi, then much further Corsi, Cortese, Terol and De Rosa. Talmacsi passes Smith and returns to the virtual podium…

Mike continues to lead this race which could be stopped due to an increasingly intense downpour…. "I thought they were going to stop the race", explained the Toulouse man:"when I saw that there were people coming back to me, I said to myself "Mike, wake up!" and I started to push".

22nd and 23rd laps : Stefan Bradl gradually gets closer to Mike di Meglio, before the latter reacts to his paneling and increases his pace again to take shelter from a possible attack by the German! The Grizzly rider must now deal with the pressure put on him by the Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi.

24th and 25th laps : Mike continues to take Bradl, Talmacsi Smith, Terol, Corsi, Cortese, Redding and Marc Marquez. Doing Mike’s business in the championship, Nicolas Terol takes fifth place at the expense of Simone Corsi.

Last round : Mike di Meglio is now more than two seconds ahead of Stefan Bradl: unless I’m mistaken, the French driver should sign a "Kolossal" victory! Bradley Smith tries a final attack on the last left, but Talmacsi manages to keep his place on the podium behind local Stefan Bradl! Alexis Masbou finished 21st and Louis Rossi 22nd.

By winning in Germany with his fourth victory of the season, Mike di Meglio made the break before the summer break on Simone Corsi (5th in the race): with 166 points, the n ° 63 was 30 points ahead of his rival, 57 on Gabor Talmacsi who goes up the standings and 65 on Stefan Bradl.

They are explained:

Mike di Meglio (1st) : "It was a difficult race because the weather was changeable and we had difficulty adjusting the bike during practice. During the race, the bike was perfect, although I lacked a bit of engine compared to my rivals. I am very happy and I thank Derbi, all my team and my family !"

Stefan Bradl (2nd) : "I am very happy ! It was a really tough race, in the second part we had a few drops of rain but the lap times were too fast to stop the race. Mike was very good, he widened the gap and I couldn’t follow him. I think I did a good performance for my home Grand Prix !"

Gabor Talmacsi (3rd) : "I am satisfied. I expected them to stop the race when it started to rain. I could have been second, but in the end Stefan was faster than me. Anyway, I took pole and progressing, we are third in the championship and I can say that we are on the right track. !"
