The ogre of Tavullia devours its 100th success in Assen !

MotoGP - The ogre of Tavullia devours his 100th success in Assen! - GP 125: Terol the Kamikaze ...

At 30, Valentino Rossi seems to have retained the same motivation as when he started out in 1996: yesterday at the Grand Prix in Assen, the Italian genius took pole, the fastest lap in the race and above all his 100th victory, all categories combined…. Respect !

GP 125: Terol the Kamikaze…

Well stuck in Julian Simon‘s wheel, Sandro Cortese of Team Ajo distinguished himself by taking the first pole position of his career with an excellent time of 1’45.430 on the Assen track. The two men precede Nico Terol and Stefan Bradl on a first row that is held in less than a quarter of a second !

The French Johann Zarco (Aprilia WTR) and Alexis Masbou (Loncin) will start from 16th and 28th position on the starting grid: alas, for the fifth time in a row, Masbou is a victim of the mechanics of his Chinese 125: during the warm-up Saturday morning, his team detects a start of tightening … Due to lack of time, the Albigensian will be forced to start with an engine whose life is estimated at less than two laps…

The race : Under a graying sky, Englishman Bradley Smith is the quickest to set off for this 61st edition of the Assen GP ahead of Nico Terol, Sergio Gadea and Andrea Iannone. Smith fails to contain the return of rivals and falls back to fourth behind Iannone, Terol, Simon and Gadea.

At the head of the race, the first five have already widened a gap of one and a half seconds over the rest of the peloton: it must be recognized that Iannone and Terol do not amuse the ground and scrap fairings against fairings for several laps! On the lookout for the slightest mistake, Julian Simon takes advantage of Iannone’s drop in power to steal second place and widen a slight gap on Gadea, Iannone and Smith.

While he was in a very good 11th place after an average start, Johann Zarco made a mistake in the final chicane, but managed to start again in 24th position. As expected unfortunately, Alexis Masbou was forced to return to his box after his engine had – once again – died…

Taking advantage of Terol’s gap in a long left, Julian Simon temporarily takes the lead in the event under Gadea’s eyes. The Spaniard does not let it be fooled and quickly regains his strength, while the gap on Andrea Iannone and Bradley Smith is now more than six seconds. Incisive in turn, Sergio Gadea rings the charge and carries a beautiful attack on Terol !

The three men do not let go and tackle certain three-way turns head on! Gadea is a little shy at the entrance to a right and immediately Terol and Simon take the opportunity to pass! Seven laps from the finish, very clever who would manage to designate the winner, so intense is the fight! Behind this frenzied trio, Iannone and Smith are unable to keep pace and are more than ten seconds behind Stefan Bradl, Pol Espargaro and Marc Marquez.

Two laps from the finish, Julian Simon launched a new attack on Terol, but the n ° 18 replied immediately and thought he could start the last lap in the lead, but Simon passed him once again just before the penultimate chicane! Nico Terol then tries to put the brakes on him, but the iberian gets carried away, fails to carry Simon, and must shoot straight into the asphalt loophole. !

But the n ° 18 does not even cut the throttle and comes out like a rocket under the fairing of a Sergio Gadea propelled race leader following the daring maneuver of Terol! At the end of this twisty finish, Sergio Gadea finally won ahead of Nico Terol, Julian Simon, Bradley Smith and Andrea Iannone.

Faced with the recklessness of Nico Terol on the last lap, Aspar Martinez obviously lodged a complaint with the race management, especially as his second driver – Julian Simon – finished behind the driver Jack and Jones … After deliberation, the commission will inflict a penalty of twenty seconds which relegates Nico Terol to fifth position.
