06-13 Great Britain - Donington - WorldSBK Great Britain (2): VDMark goes on, Razgatlioglu goes wild - Used YAMAHA

Victorious for the first time in World Superbike yesterday at Donington Park, Michael van der Mark once again posted his Yamaha on the top step of the podium this Sunday! The "rookie" Toprak Razgatlioglu strikes a big blow also by climbing on his first podium, in front of the triple champion Rea…

Winner of his first Superbike race yesterday afternoon, Michael van der Mark is forced – by the "disruption" of the World Superbike – to install his R1 in a distant ninth place on the English grid this Sunday. The No. 60 Yamaha starts behind his podium companions: Kawasaki officials, Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

On the contrary, the teammate of "Magic Michael" within the Yamaha Pata factory team is generously rewarded with his solid fourth place on Saturday: Alex Lowes starts from pole position in front of his audience … and in front of the two members of Aprilia Milwaukee team, Lorenzo Savadori and Eugene Laverty.

Seventh in the first round at Donington Park, Loris Baz inherits the lead from second row. The French clan can be proud of its driver … but also stolen by the WSBK regulations since our compatriot had set the third fastest time in qualifying !

"Mister" Baz will have to get off to a great start to contain the three Britons posted behind him: the vice-world champion Chaz Davies and his Ducati must imperatively score big points today, the guest Leon Haslam wants to shine more at home and Leon Camier intends to regain his very good level at the start of the season.

Departure : Lorenzo Savadori springs from his second place like a devil out of his box! Second on the first decametres, Eugene Laverty was attacked from all sides in the descent of Craner Curves! The n ° 50 seems to be the victim of a technical glitch…

On the other hand, everything is rolling for his teammate who completes the first lap of this second race ahead of Alex Lowes, Leon Haslam, Loris Baz, Michael van der Mark, Jonathan Rea, Marco Melandri, Tom Sykes, Leon Camier, Toprak Razgatlioglu, etc..

Lowes then Haslam passed Savadori at the start of the second lap. Too greedy on his angle grip, Leon fell into the Melbourne hairpin … Lorenzo therefore recovered second place but he was quickly threatened by Michael van der Mark. Two short seconds behind, Baz leads a particularly dissipated peloton !

Sykes and Rea fight fairing against fairing at the start of the 3rd round before calming things down, allowing them to overtake Baz at the very end of the same 3rd round. Razgatlioglu imitates his colleagues on the factory Kawasaki the following lap. Davies and Melandri are still struggling on their Ducatis, a second behind our dear Loris.

In front, Van der Mark dived under Savadori in Craner Curves: the n ° 60 was then a good second behind his teammate. It is however Rea who signs the fastest lap in the race in the 5th loop: the "Number One" goes back in the wake of Aprilia n ° 32 then third … But he aims higher.

Tom Sykes cannot follow his teammate. Even more frustrating for the 2013 world champion: he was caught and then overtaken by Toprak Razgatlioglu. Falling at the very end of the first round, the young and promising rookie of the Kawasaki Puccetti team wants to score big points this Sunday.

A little further still, Davies climbs easily to the level of our "Baz-ooka". The official Ducati n ° 7 then turns half a second faster than our compatriot in his BMW n ° 76 and steals his seventh place. Melandri is less efficient and only grabs a tenth per lap.

Installed in the lead since the second lap, Lowes lacks pace compared to Van der Mark … and Rea who is still the fastest man on the track! The northern Irishman easily overtook Savadori when braking the Esses Fogarty on the 8th lap and chased the two Yamaha n ° 22 and 60…

The three leading men meet in the same second at the start of the 10th lap. "Johnny" accelerates again and passes – alone – under 1 ’28! But by pushing his Kawasaki to its limits, the triple champion reaches his limits: a kick from the Ninja encourages him to give – a little – the gas.

Two short seconds behind Rea, Razgatlioglu continued his admirable second round: the young Turkish driver annoyed the Italian Savadori at the end of the 10th lap. Tom Sykes has a front row seat for the show. But the experienced n ° 66 does not intervene and wisely stays at a distance.

A few drops begin to fall on the circuit. The marshals wave their white flag with a red cross, but the pilots continue to "wring" their right grip as if nothing had happened! Jonathan Rea takes advantage of a small mistake by Michael van der Mark at the exit of Esses Fogarty to win the next braking of Melbourne Hairpin.

In the background, Chaz Davies struggles with a Ducati decidedly uncomfortable on the atypical English route. The "Welsh Dragon" leaps on the sixth place of the Ninja Sykes in the 14th lap. In front of them, Razgatlioglu gradually moves away: the rookie n ° 54 focuses on the fourth place occupied by Savadori !

At the front of the race, Rea grew impatient and attempted an attack on Lowes from a long way off under Redgate braking. Thanks to his cleaner trajectory, Lowes immediately manages to regain command! Van der Mark observes patiently, on the lookout for the slightest blunder…

Jonathan doubles his attacks on Alex at the very end of the 17th round! Too wide in the first Melbourne hairpin, the "Number One" also widens in Goddards but resists on the outside and comes out stronger than the No. 22 in the pit straight. Michael doubles his teammate in the same stretch.

One lap later, Michael van der Mark avenges his teammate by overtaking Jonathan Rea! There are still five laps to go, but the winner of the first round slams incredible lap times, as if he and his bike had just started their race. !

Not far behind, Razgatlioglu climbs like an arrow on Lowes. Yesterday, "Magic Michael" gave his Country (-Bas) the first victory in its history in World Superbike. Today Toprak is able to give his country its very first podium…

Four laps from the end, rider n ° 54 and his private Kawasaki effectively ejected the official Yamaha n ° 22 and Lowes from the third step of the English podium! Razgatlioglu does not relax his effort, on the contrary: he sets off in pursuit of Rea placed a few lengths in front of him !

Sofuoglu’s colt turns faster than his target: the "beginner" in the SBK category finds himself in the aspiration of the triple world champion with two laps to go! Meanwhile, Michael van der Mark escapes alone in the lead: he flies to a masterful double !

Razgatlioglu further narrowed the gap between him and second place on the penultimate lap. Sykes wins a place in the final loop by braking unstoppably on Savadori – and on the corner! – to Old Hairpin. But the highlight of the show is driven by another Ninja !

At the same time in fact, Toprak Razgatlioglu performs an even more flamboyant maneuver on Jonathan Rea "Himself": the private pilot Kawa passes in front – under! – the "Number One" of the discipline in turn n ° 5, in the middle of the climb to Starkey‘s Bridge. Impressive.

The Turkish’s genuine feat should not, however, overshadow the magnificent second straight victory of the Dutch No. 60, which precedes the No. 54 and No. 1 by more than two seconds on the finish line. "Magic Michael" pocketed a memorable double and the corresponding 50 points !

Sixth in the championship on his arrival in Great Britain, Michael van der Mark leaves with the same number of points as Tom Sykes (3rd with 163 points). The two men are 18 points behind Chaz Davies who saves the furniture with a fifth place this Sunday.

Author of a 10th podium in twelve races this season (!), Jonathan Rea once again increased his comfortable lead in the provisional standings: the 2015-2016-2017 world champion totaled 245 points (out of 300 maximum), against 181 for the vice -champion Davies.

The other two Ducati riders leave Donington Park even more frustrated: the official Marco Melandri only scored five small points this weekend (11th today), the private Xavi Fores did not register a single one and the "junior" Michael Rinaldi only gleaned four (12th yesterday).

Tenth in this second British round, Loris Baz was overtaken by Toprak Razgatlioglu in the championship: the counter of our compatriot shows 67 points, that of the Turkish 78. Invited to Donington Park with his R1 from GMT94, Niccolo Canepa could not finish more high than 18th this Sunday.
