Separated by a small point when arriving at Donington Park, Krummenacher and Mahias failed to fight for victory in Great Britain … unlike Cortese and Cluzel who passed them in the championship ! World Supersport crown coveted more than ever.

Winner of the last two Supersport races (at Assen then Imola), Jules Cluzel drove home the point yesterday during the Superpole at Donington Park: the n ° 16 of the Indian team Yamaha NRT won his first pole of the season, the 20th of his career, covering the 4023 meters of the English circuit in 1 ‘30.270.

The track record (1 ‘29.925) remains the property of five-time world champion Kenan Sofuolglu. But the latter, as a reminder, hung up the leather just before the start of the Italian race two weeks ago. Our international "Julo" presents himself as the man to beat this Sunday noon…

Beaten by two small tenths of a second, Lucas Mahias nevertheless secured a new first row on the grid: three poles and three second places for our champion this year! But the official Yamaha n ° 144 above all wants to improve his race statistics: he has not been on the podium for three races. !

Behind our two "Frenchies", a big client is installed: Sandro Cortese, third in the general classification. The provisional leader, Randy Krummenacher, places his own R6 at the top of the second row and will try to bounce back after his disappointing performance in Italy. (5th all the same).

Hikari Obubo places his Kawasaki Pucetti n ° 78 in fifth position in front of MV Agusta n ° 3 of Raffaele de Rosa. Mahias teammate Federico Caricasulo starts from third place ahead of Luke Stapleford’s Triumph and second factory F3 driven by Ayrton Badovini.

Note that our third French rider, Corentin Perolari, qualified in an encouraging 20th place. We should also mention the 12th place of the wildcard Andrew Irwin, brother of Glenn the winner of the two Superbike races of the recent edition of the North West 200…

departure : Jules Cluzel ensures a "magnificient holeshot" in front of Sandro Cortese, Raffaele de Rosa, Lucas Mahias, Hiraki Okubo, Randy Krummenacher, Luke Stapleford, Federico Caricasulo, Thomas Gradinger, Andrew Irwin, etc. The 1st loop is driven with beating drums by our favorite n ° 16.

The four leading men isolated themselves – from each other, unfortunately – a little more in the second lap. Housed in Okubo‘s wheel, Krummenacher somewhat animates this very beginning of the race by looking for an opening but does not really attack the Japanese until the very end of the 3rd lap, in the final Goddards hairpin..

Three seconds ahead, "Julo" still leads ahead of Sandro, but the n ° 11 comes back in contact with our compatriot … De Rosa sets up times comparable to this new duo and therefore remains at a small second. Mahias is a second and a half away, followed by Krummenacher.

Okubo fell in the 5th lap and offered his sixth place to Caricasulo who struggled to stay in the wake of the championship leaders: Mahias and Krummenacher were only separated by one point before the start of the English race was given! Gradinger and Badovini are fighting for seventh place. Irwin and West close the Top 10.

In the 7th lap, two groups formed at the forefront: Cluzel, Cortese and De Rosa virtually occupy the podium, Mahias, Krummenacher and Caricasulo roll three seconds further. Suddenly, Cortese flies in the feathers of our "Coq Supersportif" !

By tracing the shortest distance between the two rights McLean’s and Coppice, Sandro comes to place his R6 under that of our compatriot who has no other choice but to straighten his machine slightly and let his authoritarian opponent pass. "Achtung", the German plays the win !

Behind, Krummenacher wins over Mahias in the bowl of Old Hairpin. The Swiss driver was then three and a half seconds behind De Rosa, who followed Cluzel and Cortese. The Italian and his factory F3 have been following the two Yamaha (private!) Since the start of the race, without being noticed…

The second half of the race is started by a solid Cortese, but not archi-domineering: the n ° 11 does not separate from the n ° 16 and the n ° 3. Krummenacher, Mahias and Caricasulo are unable to get back on the top three: the three men are still three and a half seconds behind.

Twenty seconds later, the locals Smith and Stapleford are fighting neck and neck: on his Honda n ° 111, Kyle performs an incredible exterior on Luke’s Triumph n ° 84! The public takes comfort in not seeing any Briton fighting for victory … in the Supersport category at least..

Seven laps from the end, Randy Krummenacher wakes up the (tele) spectators: a little wide in Old Hairpin, the Swiss pilot puts a big ladle of gas at the exit and almost goes high-side! The n ° 21 clings to the handlebars of his Yamaha and avoids falling. But Mahias takes the opportunity to double him…

Two laps later, De Rosa took advantage of a small mistake made by Cluzel in Old Hairpin to take second place! Cortese for his part, continues his race without fail. The German has a small second ahead of the Italian and the French who gets back into the rhythm the following lap.

Two seconds behind, Mahias is again threatened by Krummenacher: the two men will not be able to fight for the victory, or even the podium … and the head of the general classification risks slipping them between the gloves! Lucas is a little slower than Randy, but he holds up well.

Cortese escapes alone in the lead. With a lap and a half from the end, Cluzel brakes De Rosa before the Esses de Fogarty! A few moments later, Krummenacher won over Mahias under braking in the Melbourne chicane. The 2017 champion cannot retaliate in the next chicane and begins the last lap behind his enemy n ° 21.

At the end of an impeccably managed race, Sandro Cortese clinches a magnificent victory, his second this season. Jules Cluzel then Raffaele de Rosa followed him on the podium. Our n ° 16 does most of his lap of honor on the rear wheel: the "Fast Chiken is very happy" !

Conversely, Lucas Mahias is not at the party: the No. 144 of the official Yamaha team was aiming for the English podium this Sunday and finally finished fifth, behind Randy Krummenacher. The face of the championship is completely upset…

Sandro Cortese, who has not left the Top6 since the opening of the season in Australia, takes the helm of the 2018 Supersport championship with a total of 102 points registered (out of 150 maximum). Despite his fall at Buriram, Jules Cluzel occupies the second place, seven points behind the new leader.

Krummenacher and Mahias follow, respectively 8 and 12 points behind Cortese. Sixth today in Great Britain, Caricasulo still gives way to the provisional: he is only 12 points ahead of his compatriot De Rosa.

MNC congratulates Corentin Perolari who finished his second race at world level in points! The GMT94 team and its boss Christophe Guyot can be proud of the 15th place of their new recruit.
