Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st:
"It was a great weekend. With no pressure now, I was able to ride a little more aggressively. I got into excellent positions in the first laps and I found a good place on the track early on. . I had a lot of trouble passing Van der Mark, he kept counterattacking, but once the track was clear I managed to catch up with Davies. But, again, it turned out very difficult to pass. My team gave me the perfect bike today, including in terms of final gear. Mainly in the straight line I could really take on Chaz and get back up alongside him. I tried to put the brakes on him twice but I was too long: I missed the rope and he came back in front. So I readjusted the strategy a bit to attack another turn. My bike was turning very short and I could see that he was struggling to reach the rope in the eighth turn (the 180 °, Editor’s note) Then I picked up my pace and watched my pa nneau. It was a very pleasant feeling ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 2nd:
“It’s great to be back on the podium after a few difficult months. It’s been a tough summer with the double collarbone injury, but here we are back in the box after a few races. Magny-Cours is not definitely not a cool track for my type of injury as there are a few really hard braking areas followed by right turns. The plan was to get off to a good start and push for as long as possible, and that’s what we did. We tried to make it a little harder for Rea, I stuck to my cues to make sure that if he tried to pass he would end up on the limit just as much as I did. made a few mistakes and managed to cross his lines, but he ended up overtaking me and we were inefficient in the turns and exits. We weren’t far off the mark though, so there are what to be happy about. Now I can’t wait to go to Argentina ".
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 3rd:
"After such a difficult race yesterday, I am really happy to finish the Magny-Cours weekend with a podium today. We changed the bike a lot before the warm-up this morning, but I still didn’t feel not really comfortable on the bike. So Lez (Les Pearsons, his chief mechanic, Editor’s note) and my guys made a few more changes before the race: it was a bit of a gamble, but it paid off. got off to such a good start, it was probably my best this season, and I was able to be aggressive from the first lap. I tried to pass Chaz, who was also fast, but I’m not really there Then Johnny passed me and for the first time this weekend I felt like I had the bike I needed to fight with the best riders. They were a bit stronger than me at the end, but I’m really happy with the improvements we made last night. I’m happy to be on the podium after such a difficult weekend ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 4th:
“It wasn’t that bad in the end, we were still there, but it’s kind of the same story as in previous events, where we didn’t get the right times on the race tire from the start. two rear tire solutions and we tried them on both races. In the end our set-up is really very good. It has advantages and disadvantages. I felt comfortable on the bike during this second round, but I had a little trouble in the corners. I felt good yesterday, but I lacked a bit of grip on the angle. We had to start from third row and move up the peloton. This race was much closer and there were two guy between Jonathan and I. It was nice to catch up with the guys in front and do some overtaking at the end of the race, but we lacked speed at the start ".
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), 5th:
"I’m a little disappointed because trying to improve the bike under braking compared to the first round, we unfortunately regressed in agility. I was having trouble changing direction and to compensate, I forced a lot with the front. . After the halfway point the front grip decreased significantly and I couldn’t do more. It’s a shame because a podium was within our reach. But we are looking to the future, we will try to return to the podium in Argentina ".
Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia n ° 32), 6th:
“The race was not easy for me today. I lost too much time at the start, when Razgatlioglu passed me and I had to defend myself. I closed the gap on Sykes and I had a steady pace but it was difficult to get back to the front runners. Compared to yesterday we made some changes, some didn’t work well. I didn’t have the pace to attack Sykes and Melandri at the end unfortunately, so sixth was our maximum today. For Argentina, I hope we can continue the good work we have done recently. None of us know what the track will look like, nor the trajectories not more than the coating, it will be an interesting discovery ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha # 22), 7th:
“It was a disappointing weekend overall. My speed was pretty good, but we just didn’t get the results we should have been here. I didn’t get the best of my tenth starts. place on the grid and I found myself in a kind of battle in the first few laps: I was overtaking and then another guy walked past me and it held us all back. Once isolated my pace was good, but it was too much. late because the lead group had widened too big a gap. From there it was just a matter of staying focused, staying consistent and finishing the race. We worked hard this weekend to get me there. ‘comfortable on the bike, but we still have to find improvements in some areas if we are to turn the situation around at the next race in Argentina ".
Xavi Fores (Ducati n ° 12), 8th:
“Starting from the third row was not good for me. I had a big battle with Toprak (Razgatlioglu) and Eugene (Laverty) in the first lap: a gap with the leaders quickly opened. I was hoping I could fight for the Top 5 but I had a hard time stopping the bike and overtaking. Reaching the first group was impossible because the pace was similar, I had nothing more so it was a good weekend. end for us after the disaster in Portimao. I am now waiting for Argentina, because it is a new avenue for everyone. I will look for another good result there ".
Leon Camier (Honda n ° 2), 9th:
“I felt a lot happier today, the changes we made to the bike helped it turn so I was really able to attack and work my way through the field. It was clearly a nice progress we made with the Fireblade. My pace for the second half of the race would have earned me a place in the top six, and that’s where we should have been had our grid position been a bit Our performance in the second round was a nice way to end the weekend. We will try to keep our momentum going until the next event in Argentina. ".
Loris Baz (BMW n ° 76), 10th:
"This second race went better than the first. Once again I missed my start and was 15th or 16th on the first lap. I managed to climb quickly to find myself in Leon Camier’s wake. Past Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Eugene Laverty. I then passed Toprak Razgatlioglu, but he immediately responded by pushing me out of the line. So I couldn’t stay in contact with Camier, although I knew I was I had the pace to do it. I had a big fight against Laverty and Razgatlioglu to regain the advantage and finish the race in tenth. Overall today was better than the day before as my pace would have allowed me to follow Leon Camier and Xavi Fores. There are two more appointments on the calendar and we will do our best until the end, as usual. I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Guillaume Frechet ".
Many WorldSBK riders (SSP300 and 600, STK1000 or SBK) paid tribute this Sunday to Guillaume Frechet, rider of the French Supersport Championship (Yamaha n ° 11), unfortunately died as a result of his highside during the final disputed there has a week in Albi.
