Honda PCX 2018: the scooter goes electric and hybrid … in Asia
Honda continues its festival of novelties at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show (Japan) by presenting two new versions of its PCX scooter: a 100% electric version and a second hybrid that combines heat engine and electric propulsion. Release planned for 2018 in Asia.
BMW will soon no longer be the only big manufacturer "connected" to the segment: faster than the success of the (best selling electric two-wheeler in France), Honda is taking action with an unprecedented variation of its equipped with ” an electric motor for 2018 !

This "battery-powered" PCX discovered yesterday at the Tokyo Motor Show is equipped with a "high efficiency engine developed by Honda" which will be powered by batteries called "Honda Mobile Power Pack", placed under the saddle to the detriment of the capacity of ‘carry the trunk.
Their removable format will allow them to be recharged directly from an outlet in the garage or in an area equipped with charging stations – such as private or public car parks – or to take them apart to recharge them at home if necessary..
The alternative to banning thermal vehicles from European city centers
No information concerning the autonomy of this electric PCX is available to date, nor its charging time or its price. On the other hand, Honda announces its marketing "in 2018 in the region of Asia, including Japan". Everything suggests that it should then join the European range, aided in this by the strong push towards electric vehicles exerted by several large European cities….
Thus, Paris intends to ban its access to diesel vehicles in 2024 and to gasoline vehicles in 2030 (cars, motorcycles and scooters, therefore), while Oslo (Norway) wants to ban all thermal vehicles from its city center here. .. 2019. Suffice to say tomorrow! Oxford (England) expects a total ban on diesel and petrol by 2030.
Finally, Madrid (Spain), Mexico City (Mexico) and Athens (Greece) will drive out diesel cars from 2024 … initially: the ban on gasoline vehicles will certainly follow in the wake, at the same time signing the end of the circulation of motorcycles and scooters in these towns. In other words, manufacturers have no choice: they must react and expand their so-called "soft" mobility offer….
PCX Hybrid 2018: first for Asia, tomorrow in Europe ?
Honda, well aware of the consequences that these restrictions could gradually have on its thermal range, is gradually preparing itself for it with another very interesting type of two-wheeler: a new PCX scooter with hybrid propulsion, again built on the basis of the current model.
This new scooter discovered in Tokyo would keep its 125 cc heat engine to cover inter-urban connections, while an electric block would propel it "cleanly" and silently in city centers. A practical and economical double engine as a possible development path in the future !
- MNC Interview : Harley-Davidon wants to conquer the world
Because all the interest of this hybrid propulsion – popularized in cars by the Toyota Prius – lies in the fact that the gasoline engine recharges the batteries, which avoids the headache of recharging on a 220V outlet. If this mode of propulsion is sometimes the subject of, this project carried out by Honda would, to our knowledge, be the second in large series after the fire. .
"Honda continues to work in favor of the development of various technologies and products that will help create a carbon-free society and is making significant progress in making its gasoline vehicles cleaner and more economical," explains the manufacturer, who also plans a marketing in Asia – including Japan – in 2018.
To follow closely on MNC: stay recharged !
