Below are the statements of the riders who would have liked to animate the second Superbike round. Honor to the champion !
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), WSBK 2018 champion with 545 points:
"It was a difficult situation today. On the one hand it’s frustrating not being able to finish the season when we were ready to fight. But on the other hand the conditions are really tough, especially in the turn # 15. It didn’t seem to be drained at all and every time they tried to clean the track water would come up from the gravel bed. It was frustrating for the fans too, because they won’t. no Superbike race tonight. But safety is paramount. We can look back on our season with pride. Today’s race being canceled, we end with a victory ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 2nd in the championship with 356 pts:
“Safety has to come first, even if it goes against the show. I apologize for the fans who came here and those at home, but canceling the race was the right decision to make today. We seal the deal. second place in the championship, I’m very happy, and above all, I’m very excited to take on a new challenge with the V4. I can’t wait to drive it in a few weeks! "
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 3rd with 333 pts:
“Canceling the second race was absolutely the right decision. Our championship was already played and the track conditions were not improving, especially in turn 15 where there was a lot of standing water. It’s a shame to end the season. in the pits, but safety has to come first. We set some goals at the start of the year: fight for podiums, fight for a win and finish in the top five in the championship. We did it all. and more. I am really happy to finish the third season of the championship. The team can be proud of their achievements this year, because we have improved a lot and the two drivers (Alex Lowes and him, Editor’s note) have won races and finished on the podium. Now we have to keep working, looking for further improvements in order to come back even stronger in 2019 ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 4th with 314 pts:
“It was weird not to race today. I feel robbed! I wanted to do one last dance with my bike and enjoy it, really. I thought we had a really good race setup this weekend. felt something good could happen today and wanted to give us one last chance. I was in the top three at the world championship for six years, so this is the first time in seven years that I have finished in outside the Top 3. On the other hand, our speed was still unquestionable, we always had it: yesterday we came not too far behind Jonathan, who has been four times world champion. Thanks to everyone at Kawasaki, to the team for all their efforts over the past few years ".
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), 5th with 297 pts:
“It’s always heartbreaking to cancel a race, but common sense prevails. Despite a similar problem in MotoGP, the drainage system probably wasn’t upgraded properly. But it needs to be. Also considering that it rained very hard today. It’s a shame because I didn‘t want to end my career like that, but riding in these conditions wouldn’t have made any sense ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha n ° 22), 6th with 248 pts:
“After yesterday’s podium I was a little disappointed to miss the opportunity to fight for a new podium today. But safety always comes first. I’ve had some really strong moments this season. In WorldSBK, I took my first race victory and my first pole position this year. And winning for the third time in a row at Suzuka (the prestigious 8 Hours endurance event, Editor’s note) was also quite special. There is also some frustration, because sometimes I felt like I couldn’t ride the way I wanted. But we started and ended the season strong and we know exactly where we need to improve. I can’t wait to do it. start winter practice, work to improve my game and come back even stronger next year. Well done to Michael for finishing in the top three in the championship and congratulations to the team ".
Xavi Fores (Ducati n ° 12), 6th and 1st independent with 230 pts:
"It was a shame not to play the second round because I wanted to end the championship in a different way. It was a very positive season, during which we reaped the fruits of three years‘ hard work. team has gone to great lengths to always provide me with the best possible material. In this I would like to thank "Barni", Pamela and everyone who worked with me ".
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia n ° 50), 7th with 158 pts:
"We have to admit that the decision taken not to run tonight given the conditions was the right one. This is not how everyone wanted to end the season, but thanks to the WorldSBK organizers in to have made the right choice. At this point, all I hope is just that I can continue to be a part of the show next year. ".
Loris Baz (BMW n ° 76), 11th with 137 pts:
"Race canceled for safety … I would have liked a last round starting from the first row! A big thank you to these guys! The season has been very complicated but nobody has ever stopped smiling and everything Make it work One thing for sure: I love this job more than anything. I’m only 25 and I’ll be back on the top, one way or another! "
