Africa Eco Race - First stage victory for Felix Jensen in the Africa Eco Race -

The competitors of the Africa Eco Race 2019 still face the Mauritanian dunes, with for this 9th stage of the Monaco-Dakar a 375 km loop around Chinguetti, a city listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.. And for the first time in his young career, the Norwegian Felix Jensen imposes his KTM n ° 102 in front of the French Patrice Carillon (KTM n ° 106).

This ninth stage in navigation announced as "difficult" kept all its promises, but the sand dunes of Mauritania were finally crossed without too much difficulty over a hundred kilometers..

Disciple, compatriot and teammate of Pal Anders Ullevalseter, the youngster Felix Jensen discovered off-road rallying last year in the Africa Eco Race, which he finished in fourth position.

At the height of his 27 years, he is the one who did the best in navigation today: while all the leaders had struggled to stay the course and find a mandatory waypoint (Way Point) which only triggered on the GPS at 500 meters, he was the first to validate this WPM and won his first special with a 1’05 lead over Patrice Carillon, the first French driver of the day.

Simone Agazzi (Honda # 116) follows in third position ahead of Pal Anders Ullevalseter while Domenico Cipollone (KTM # 123) finishes 6th just 10.56 behind the winner, which allows him to move up to 5th position overall.

For his part, the leader Alessandro Botturi (Yamaha n ° 103) rode carefully and finished 5th, two minutes behind his main competitor for the final victory. The Italian is still 5’15 ahead of Ullevalseter, who only has two stages left to come back before the finish in Dakar on Sunday !

"Protect the mechanics"

The darling of MNC, the only motorcyclist in the race on the handlebars of her KTM n ° 158, continues her adventure with a masterful hand (sse): yesterday climbed from 40th to 36th place, she is now in 32nd position overall after finishing 27th on stage !

"I spent 12 hours on my motorbike to complete the 480 km of the stage, riding alongside Roger Baron (KTM n ° 122)", explains BMW Motorrad sales representative Azzurro, whose goal for the end of the race is clear: "to manage as well as possible to ensure, to spare the mechanics and especially not to go to the fault"…

Disappointment on the other hand for Guillaume Vidal, who had to be transferred to Nouakchott for medical examinations after having a fall at kilometers 40 which resulted in the fire of his KTM n ° 135…

"Yesterday morning I picked up Stephane Hamard unconscious after a big fall in ripples, and this morning rebels with our little Frenchman Guillaume Vidal who was unconscious at the edge of the track and his motorcycle which was burning", explains Patrice Carillon, second of the day , but "I assure you, both are fine".
