Duel BMW F 700 GS vs Triumph Tiger 800: easy trails !
Appeared two years ago, the Triumph Tiger 800 quickly established itself as the benchmark for mid-capacity road trails. But that was without counting BMW’s response with its new F 700 GS. Duel at the top… ease !
Munich too expensive against Hinckley…
Their respectable displacement allows our two trails to hold a very decent cruising speed on the motorway. At 130 km / h counter in sixth, the 3-cylinder of the Tiger turns at 5,800 rpm while the twin of the F 700 GS purrs at 4,600 rpm.
The margin of error is roughly the same compared to the GPS (about 5-6 km / h), which makes it possible to cross around 140 km / h with no risk for the pink paper.
Across the Rhine, the BMW will be happy to catch slowly but surely the 200 km / h counter, but will be inexorably left behind by the Triumph, strong it is true of almost 20 additional horses.
On average, the GS consumed one liter less per 100 km during our journey than the Tiger 800, but their range was about the same because the Triumph carries three more liters in its 19-liter tank..
The BMW is particularly sober with a consumption of 4.5 l / 100 km, that is to say an autonomy before reserve of more than 250 km in spite of its small tank of 16 liters. The Tiger 800 claims 5.6 l / 100 km on average, but can be more greedy if you start to roar your engine !
Verdict: an English Triumph !
These two "mid-size" trails are undoubtedly very good motorcycles, ultra versatile in addition. Difficult to decide in absolute terms, they become much less so when asking for the addition !
At € 9,850 (including ABS), the Tiger 800 is not really "cheap" but it offers a lot, while the extra soul brought by its three-cylinder will eventually convince the skeptics. For its part, the F 700 GS is really expensive to pay for its services…
If its starting price is "only" $ 9,200 (with standard ABS), its price soars with all the "ki-are-good" options. Equipped with the "Safety" and "Comfort" packs (heated grips, on-board computer, central stand and case supports), a comfort saddle and an alarm, the motorcycle used during this test costs a whopping 10,665 euros. … and it still lacks a high windshield and a luggage rack.
In short, enough to finance the first 10 or 15,000 kilometers of the Tiger 800. But the Behème remains a damn good alternative for those looking for an easy and ultra-efficient motorcycle, equipped with maximum active safety..
