Adrien Van Beveren wins – at only 25! – his third consecutive Touquet Motorcycle Enduro ahead of two other Yamaha riders: Axel Van de Sande (n ° 27) and Camille Chapelière (n ° 2). Adrien Van Beveren wins – at only 25! – his third consecutive ahead of two other Yamaha riders: Axel Van de Sande (n ° 27) and Camille Chapelière (n ° 2). The title holder’s feat is all the more impressive given that he has just returned from his first Dakar, which has ended. !

A master stroke for Van Beveren

And three! After his victories in and, Adrien Van Beveren added to his list of achievements a third success at Le Touquet. While many feared that the native of Racquinghem (62) would be too physically strained by his participation in the Dakar, the Yamaha prodigy achieved a magnificent race and an unrelenting rise to power after an average start.

Trajectory of Adrien Van Beveren

Adrien Van Beveren was born on January 4, 1991 in Racquinghem (62). At six, he started riding a Kawasaki KX60 and caught the "virus". He took part in his first cross-country league race in 1998, then turned to the French championship in 2007 after several titles in regional championships and signed two promising podiums (Bitche and La Fare).

The following year, he tasted sand races in the E1 category and won the title of champion of France. At the same time, he finished eighth in the world championship in the category. He lined up for the Enduro du Touquet in 2009 and finished sixth before finishing second in 2010, fourth in and, third in and finally winning his first victory in and confirming in .

Turned towards the rally-raid in 2016, Adrien Van Beveren got off superbly from the exercise on the tracks of South America (), showing impressive navigational talents given his inexperience. His third consecutive victory at Le Touquet sounds like a real consecration after such a season !

Rather badly started, the pilot of the Yamaha YZF450 n ° 1 indeed points to 40 seconds of the leaders at the end of the first hour of race..

To make matters worse, a concern of loss of power then appeared, forcing the favorite to ride without being able to fully exploit his Yamaha….

"My motorbike swallowed something and lost 70% of its power", he estimates.

"As soon as I got into the towers there were problems. So I had to deal with a 70% motorcycle".

Perfectly paneled and supervised by his team, he nevertheless accelerated the pace despite these worries and signed a fantastic 13th lap and thus regained more than 30 seconds from his rivals! Installed at the controls, Van Beveren was then attentive to the stopwatch to avoid completing an extra lap, claiming victory after 16 laps.

"The one I wanted to win the most"

Yamaha Racing team rider Yamalube Drag’On Tek wins with a 1’50 lead over young Axel Van Sande, another brilliant representative of the Iwata brand throughout the race.

"I’m so happy, you can’t even imagine the emotion! This Enduropale from Le Touquet is the one I had the hardest time to win, but the one I wanted to win the most too, it made all the difference ", assures Adrien Van Beveren on arrival.

"We won’t win every time, but when we win like that it’s so good. I did 10,000 km on the Dakar, we had to last 3 hours on the sand at Touquet-Paris plage. When we come back from the Dakar, we are no longer the same. I haven’t changed, but it’s my way of seeing the difficulty and of going through things that has changed. The fact of evolving in the extreme conditions of the news competitions in which I participate makes me stronger ".

Physically marked at the finish, Adrien Van Beveren practically collapsed as soon as he crossed the finish line, stunned by the accumulated fatigue, the pressure that falls and above all the joy of having accomplished something unique: besides this fantastic tripled, he entered the history of motorcycling to be the first Dakar rider to win the Enduro du Touquet.

A beautiful tribute to Thierry Sabine, at the origin of the Enduro du Touquet in 1975 then of the Paris-Dakar, tragically disappeared in a helicopter accident on January 14, 1986 – in the company, among others, of the singer Daniel Balavoine – during of the 8th edition of the Dakar…

The emotion was palpable when Gilbert Sabine, father of the creator of these two legendary off-road motorcycle racing events, presented the trophy to Adrien Van Beveren.

Sad weather, but not a cloud for Yamaha !

For Yamaha, this 2016 edition of Le Touquet is once again a complete success: in addition to the victory of Van Beveren, the Blues squat the other two steps of the podium with the Belgian Axel Van de Sande and the French Camille Chapelière. The n ° 2 takes his first podium at Le Touquet and wins the title of French sand racing champion !

The only small false note for the brand in tuning forks: the mechanical problems encountered by Milko Potisek, long in the lead after having made the holeshot. The Yamaha rider had set the best start on a straight line shortened by 500 meters because of the huge puddles created by the rains the day before. His chances of victory unfortunately escape him from the 10th round.

Second, Axel Van de Sande managed his race very well despite a small mask problem. The young Belgian has long and talented "scrapped" with Camille Chapelière’s Yamaha and Steve Ramon’s Suzuki, respectively 3rd and 4th at the finish at 4’23 and 7’08.

Fifth at 9’24, Arnaud Degousee ended his season on a very good note and signed the best performance of a KTM rider. He precedes Jean-Claude Mousse, 44, who was the last to start at Le Touquet

For the veteran, this 6th place with one lap behind the winner will undoubtedly leave a little taste of unfinished business since clutch problems at the end of the race on his Yamaha cost him precious minutes..

"I have a thought for Jean-Claude Mousse, it was his last Touquet today, he is a great driver and I hope he will come to train with me again", declared Adrien Van Beveren in tribute to his elder.

Finally, Arnaud Demeester placed his Sherco in 8th place while the first Kawasaki, that of Yves Deudon, finished 14th. Honda only appears in 18th place with Dutchman Ceriel Klein Kromhoff.
