This weekend on the Opal Coast will be the Enduropale du Touquet 2011, the most respected sand race in Europe. In front of nearly 300,000 spectators, 1,500 motorcycle and quad riders will battle it out on the beaches of Le Touquet Paris-Plage, Stella and Merlimont !

Hard blow for Honda who relied a lot on Mickaël Pichon to shine in the dunes of Touquet: the driver had to cancel his participation, due to his wrist surgery.

"Mickaël has not recovered all his abilities and will not be able to defend his title," says Honda, stressing that "taking the start of a race which is as demanding physically as it is morally is not reasonable in such conditions".

"Despite the great disappointment that touches us, we will do our best to come back next year", warns the manufacturer who wishes "all the participants, and in particular the pilots who trust Honda, to reach their goal for this race which promises to be very hotly contested ".

This Touquet 2011 promises to be sportily contested and will benefit from some interesting new features for the show: the first of them concerns the participation of an electric motorcycle in this three-hour Enduro (read).

However, whatever the final performance of this Zero Motorcycles MX entered by ATV Quad 31 and Thibault Veuillet of the Craze team, its presence in the middle of 1500 thermal machines is likely to "electrify" the crowd. !

As for the favorites for the victory, the situation has just changed considerably: winner of the 2010 edition (read), Michaël Pichon is unfortunately forced to forfeit following a ski fall (see box opposite).

Declassified in 2010 by the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) for non-compliance with sound standards on his Kawasaki (a sanction recently confirmed by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee), Yves Deudon has just confirmed his presence: since a fall in training in december, the avesnois suffered from a compression of the vertebra which compromised his participation in Le Touquet.

On the other hand, if the Kawasaki rider will be well in the game on Sunday, there is nothing to indicate that he will be able to repeat his good performance of 2010: Deudon was unable to train for more than a month and missed the two sand races that precede Le Touquet (Grayan and Hossegor).

Friday January 28

  • 9 am-8pm: administrative checks of young quads and motorcycles and motorcycles in the afternoon, closed
  • 4.30 p.m. – 8 p.m .: Red Bull urban trial show with julien Dupont, dedication room at the Palais des Congrès from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., then urban trial again

Reverse course

In order to shorten the straight line, reduce the speeds reached and avoid water "tarpaulins", the 17.8 km circuit will be followed this year in the reverse direction of previous editions. The pilots will turn left at the end of the Touquet seafront area (just after the Novotel Thalassa) to resume the track in front of the dike.

Enduropale Jeune: the future

Regarding the Young Enduropale, no significant change to note except the reversal of the direction of the circuit. On the other hand, the organizer wishes to underline "the rise in power of this category which appeared last year since the race reserved for drivers aged 13 to 17 will have no less than 250 participants this year".

Movement of the runners’ park on the avenue

The runners’ park, traditionally located on the forecourt of the Palais des Congrès, will take place this year directly on the avenue, at the Place de l’Hermitage.

This decision is dictated by the organizers’ desire to strengthen proximity to the public. No change, however, as regards the route of the convoy to reach the starting area: the pilots still using the famous rue St Jean.

  • Route : 17.8 km. Reverse direction of rotation compared to other editions
  • Duration : 3 hours of racing with service park
  • Capacity : 1000 motorcycles maximum
  • Conditions of participation : be over 18 years old. Be a FFM or Inter licensee. Have been in possession of the CASM or the motorcycle or B license for more than 2 years
  • Class of machines admitted : Class 1: from 0 to 125 cm3 2T or 250 cm3 4T Class 2: more than 125 cm3 2T / +250 cm3 4 T Class 3: more than 250 cm3 2T / + 450 cm3 4T
  • Administrative and technical checks : Friday January 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for bibs from n ° 601 to 1000 and Saturday January 29 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for bibs from n ° 1 to 600
  • Closed park : Avenue de l’Hermitage. At the end of the checks, the pilots have 10 minutes to put their machine in the parc ferme
  • Work park : Stella-Plage seafront
  • Rankings : General scratch classification / "Championnat de France des sables" classification / Additional classifications: 1st Women, 1st departmental driver (62), 1st Touquettois, 1st Senior (+ 50 years old), 1st foreign FIM licensee and 1st in the 1st round.
  • Premiums : the total premiums are 13,200 euros

2nd Young Enduropale

  • Departure : 9:30 am on Saturday January 29
  • Route : 4.5 km on the Touquet seafront, the northern part of the Enduropale circuit. Direction of rotation reversed compared to the previous edition
  • Competitors : cadets from 13 to 17 years old (one motorcycle per rider)
  • Duration : 1 hour of racing with service park
  • Capacity : 250 motorcycles maximum
  • Rankings : 1st Scratch and classification in subcategories according to engine capacity
