All Tests - Ducati Hyperstrada Test: what else? - Hyperstrada: ready for anything?

The Ducati Hyperstrada would be a fun motorcycle, capable of climbing trees, taunting roadsters and taking the suction of road cars. She would even allow her to take her chick to laze around in Corsica and bring her croissants in the morning. And the coffee too ? Test.

Hyperstrada: ready for anything ?

Is the new Ducati ready for anything? It looks good. This is the feeling that it gets very early on, in particular thanks to its mill – water – which is similar to a condensed version of the engines of the previous Hypermotard 796 and 1100 with air cooling….

In fact, the new liquid block is very flexible in use from 2000 rpm. The torque / weight ratio of the machine also allows for sacred revivals. The most athletic users will therefore not be disappointed: the 821 has a hell of a potato for overtaking and crossing in urban areas..

At more road speeds, between 3,000 rev / min and 7,000 rev / min, the Testastretta 11 ° does not lose its vigor and continues to push frankly! Here too, fans of rear wheels coming out of a curve will appreciate the power of the mill..

Remember on this occasion that the so-called "full" version delivers 110 hp and that the difference with our French version is limited to 4 small horses – 4 ponies if you prefer … This engine is one of the most successful of motorcycle production in term of approval, a good thing for us Gauls.

On the rather narrow roads which skirt Porticcio, in the south of Corsica, the asphalt is in places copiously smashed, but especially soaked by scattered rains. The opportunity for us to see that the Pirelli Scorpion Trail fitted as standard also offer great versatility thanks to their good grip on wet ground..

The weight distribution between the front and the rear gives the Hyperstrada a decent trim, however, fork adjustments or extra weight on the front would have undoubtedly made it possible to have a better feeling in the steering..

Because if the bike offers impeccable handling, the lack of feedback in the front axle is not easy to manage at the start. It’s not as straightforward and crisp as a Supermoto, nor is it as natural as a roadster. It’s somewhere in between! Getting started is therefore not easy.

But once you get "the thing", the Hyperstrada appreciates its true worth. And her kiff is the hairpins and the winding roads. Despite the weight of the luggage, the "road" Hypermotard has lost none of its agility and bounces from one angle to another with the ease of a trail.

The bike is precise and its suspensions handle the roughness of the road rather well. And in changing weather conditions, we appreciate being able to quickly juggle between three injection maps – which also play on ABS and Traction Control control -, thus reinforcing safety on board the machine..

The Ducat ‘unfortunately reserves a few surprises, such as this central stand which scrapes the ground too quickly. Too bad, because if it is surely useful to ensure the additional weight of the luggage during parking or to lubricate the chain, in dynamics it plays the intruders.

Mistrust also on the braking side because the Brembo radial mounting are terribly effective: their bite can surprise the uninitiated. On the other hand, on a really degraded road, we regret that the ABS is systematically activated and considerably extends the braking distances..

To counter this phenomenon, it is possible – some would say "recommended" – to deactivate electronic assistants! Simple and practical, navigation in the dashboard is operated via the cursor on the handlebars. Warning: to disconnect the aids, you must stop.

Finally, MNC was only able to test the duo briefly but can say that the passenger’s position is natural, with not too high footrests and wide grab handles. And if the presence of the side cases requires a certain technique to get on board, once installed, your other half should ensure you a few more years of living together…

For € 12,790, i.e. an additional cost of € 1,300 (the standard Hypermotard is displayed at € 11,490), we have a motorcycle with which we can consider the duo without too much effort, with a minimum of protection and autonomy. Playful, precise and stable, the Hyperstrada also offers a really great engine for sports use, but which is just as discreet in ride mode thanks to the absence of vibrations..

By exploding the psychological threshold of 10,000 €, and even flirting with the threshold of 13,000 €, the new Ducati Hyperstrada competes with a bunch of other more affordable or larger motorcycles and just as rewarding. And then for that price, the Hyperstrada doesn’t even make coffee … But what a face !
