Honda reinvests low-cost with the CBF 125
Titillated by the success of the Yamaha YBR and by that of a multitude of low-cost motorcycles from various origins – China, but also Korea or Taiwan -, Honda launched in January 2009 a new entry-level: the CBF 125. What is worth -it in use ? Test !
Do the race (s) ?
In the end, to stroll in old Nice or wander on the ledges overlooking the Mediterranean, the engine is valiant but not entirely suitable. At its controls, beginners – especially 125 licenses, which are more incisive than B licenses – can even train, or even beat, their little comrades who own 125 cc 4-stroke sports cars, while enjoying a more restful position and a better comfort !
So much so that Honda does not fear cannibalization of the statutory Varadero (€ 4,990 each as a reminder) by the small CBF 125: the manufacturer "expects a small transfer of customers with the CBR"whose price, performance and look are not very different from those of the new entry level.
"Remember: for young people, the 125 remains synonymous with freedom and dreams, which they acquire after two or three months of summer work. ", underlines Jean-Luc Mars.
For € 2,200, the djeun’z can therefore do "the" race. On the other hand, wiser users will have a hard time doing "the" shopping … Indeed, the "storage" space under the saddle can only accommodate an unfortunate disc lock in addition to the kit. tool !
Fortunately, the arrival in the dealership of the novelty being scheduled for January 2009, this leaves time for Honda to work on the accessories including, in priority, an anti-theft device and a top case. Still, in its original configuration, the "perfect little city car" aspect of the CBF 125 takes a hit..
For the duo, on the other hand, the CBF is rather well armed with its passenger seat of respectable size, its large grab handle and its footrests placed low enough..
