BMW K1300R, K1300S and K1300GT test: three Ks apart

All Tests - Test BMW K1300R, K1300S and K1300GT: three K apart - Take advantage of the bad weather!

Even in the south of France, the month of December can have difficult driving conditions. And that‘s good, when it comes time to try the three new BMW K 1300s: a roadster, a sports car and a roadster that are not afraid of anything. !

Take advantage of the rotten weather !

Between the "horseless" bridle, the lack of visibility at night, then the water channels crossing the road the next day, this contact did not really allow us to verify the docility of the three monsters: 175 horses for the S, 173 for the R and 160 for the GT.

But the cold and the rain are invaluable allies in judging the capacities of motorcycles, and especially those of the road family in which the K 1300 GT will appear on February 7, 2009 in concession, in the company of its sisters R and S…

The K 1300 GT will be precisely our first mount during this test. A particularly judicious choice, because despite its weight of 288 kg fully loaded which requires a certain vigilance in the first handling at a standstill, the GT is particularly welcoming and comfortable, even if the saddle lacks a hint of softness..

The descent of the center stand requires a good boost and the ascent requires good synchronization to limit its efforts. But the GT does not require the use – as on the K 1200 LT – of an electro-hydraulic control !

Despite its 6 kg additional compared to the K 1200 GT (read our), the 1300 continues to shine by its ease of handling and then by its efficiency on any type of route..

On the handlebars of the K 1300 version "Grob Tourism", the fast portion of the course is swallowed effortlessly: set at 5,000 revolutions / min with the cruise control (optional), the GT spins at 130 km / h odometer.

The fairing fully protects the legs while the bubble, set in the high position, eliminates any turbulence in the shoulders and head. Emptying the 24 liters of the tank will be a simple formality !
