All Tests - Test Drives BMW: the S1000RR 2015 in all its forms! - S1000RR Superbike World Championship (WSBK)

Withdrawn from the World Superbike for two years, the BMW racing department supports numerous teams around the world. MNC had the chance to test six S1000RRs entered in WSBK, BSB, IDM, TT, EWC and South Africa (!) On the Valencia circuit (Spain).

While Site begins to feel fatigue when descending from the “marathon” version of the BMW, the Germans now offer us to test the abilities of her best sprinter: the S1000RR n ° 20 n ° 86 who currently races in World Superbike. !

Winner of the Superstock 1000 Cup in 2010 on the S1000RR which had just been released, Ayrton Badovini replaced our excellent Sylvain Barrier – twice titled in STK1000 with the BMW as well – after two events within the BMW Italia team.

This Italian team has arguably the fastest S1000RR in the world … and the loudest! Built like a huge stadium, the circuit of Valence amplifies the phenomenon copiously, so much so that when it comes to getting on the beast, the pilot is a bit intimidated….

Once on the track, MNC is downright frightened by the explosions emanating from the Akrapovic pot: descend too low in the towers and the BMW immediately summons Inspector Callahan to his side … Stay there, and "Dirty Harry" shoots out. big shots of Magnum 44, there, right next to your right ear !

A bit stressful therefore, the Superbike naturally encourages movement to accelerate, to maintain the 4-cylinder in – very – high speeds entering and exiting curves. In fact, you get harder in the corners and you crush the brakes more. No doubt: this S1000RR is a very, very sporty bike !

Typed everywhere – the frame is the only part of the original chassis and the engine can still be worked on quite a bit (read) – the S1000RR n ° 86 is by far the most demanding of the six racing bikes tested by Site during of this exceptional day.

As on the endurance model, the 24-liter tank is higher and more protruding than the original tank, and cuts the legs a little when you do not sway to the maximum. Thinner than that used in EWC, on the other hand, it makes movements more fluid.

"So that was good ?", asks Ayrton on our return to the pits."Yes, very good! But she’s too fast. Way too fast"… for a tourist, are we tempted to add. But we are careful not to make this remark: the sixth and last mount is precisely made for the Tourist, but without e, that of the Isle of Man !
