Fabio Quartararo for the first time leader of a MotoGP race in the Netherlands
Another sensational weekend for French rookie Fabio Quartararo, who leaves Assen with his second consecutive pole and podium in MotoGP after leading the 2019 Dutch Grand Prix for twelve laps. !
Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha-SRT Petronas (1st in qualifying and 3rd in race) : "It was an excellent weekend, even if the race was very hard. Being in the lead was one of the best moments of my life, even better than my first podium in MotoGP (2nd in Catalonia, Editor’s note)! I watched these races as a child, and today I managed to run one ".

- MNC special file :
“When Marc and Maverick passed me there was nothing more I could do because of my arm issues. The rest of the field was further away so I chose to manage the distance and secure the podium. My arm was aching because there are several bumps on the track and a lot of wind, which made the bike move a lot ".
"It was very hard to control. The wind was blowing in a different direction from yesterday. I tried a lot of things, but the bike was shaking me and it was hard to hold. Then I saw that Maverick and Marc were taking an outside path and it was much better ".
- MNC interview of February 15, 2019 :
- MNC Interview of March 16, 2019 :
"We finished on the podium again and yesterday I took pole: so I couldn’t be happier! My goal at the start of the season was to get into the top 10 frequently, but little by little we recovered our goals … I’m looking forward to Germany! "
Site analysis : After signing his first MotoGP podium in Catalonia just ten days after his compartment syndrome surgery, Fabio Quartararo is back in the Netherlands with pole, the absolute circuit record and third place in the race behind Viñales and Marquez !
and had to deal with the elements during their battle!

Better still: the rookie has for the first time found himself at the head of a MotoGP race, and this on two occasions in a total of twelve laps. An impressive situation considering the differences between his private M1 and the factory Yamaha and Honda. Not to mention the additional experience of its Spanish rivals and the management of the wind factor, at the origin of impressive n ° 20 handlebars. !
So many spectacular performances which are reminiscent of those of his compatriot Johann Zarco, when he rode the same motorcycle the two previous seasons … To believe that the M1 satellite have the gift of "placing in orbit" the French pilots. !
Fabio was however forced to lower the pace, the fault of the pain caused by his recent surgery to the forearms. In view of the discomfort encountered during the tests, the Petronas pilot suspected that such a scenario was likely to occur and had in this event taken painkillers before departure..
Too much pain to play big arms
This precaution was not enough, alas: "when Maverick passed me, I was already destroyed", confides "El Diablo", forced to have a puncture carried out at the mobile clinic to relieve him on Saturday evening after his pole. "I was withdrawn a lot of liquid on Saturday, because I was in great pain", he says..
The “blue” reckons his physical condition was “less than 90%” this weekend and does not foresee a return to full form until after the summer break, during the Czech Republic GP on August 4th. This implies that Fabio also expects to suffer next Sunday at the Sachsenring, a physical circuit if there is one because it is narrow, with uneven and tortuous….
"I think that after the German GP, I will have to rest my arm well in order to reach 100% for Brno", admits the young prodigy from Nice, who at 20 years and 70 days became the youngest driver to win two poles in a row in MotoGP. A record of precocity held since 2013 by a certain Marc Marquez !
Already one of the most beautiful French awards
Fabio is also only the second French rider to achieve such a double, after Christian Sarron in 1988. At the time, Sarron had even aligned five consecutive poles on his GP500 Yamaha: will Quartararo do even better by also dominating qualifying for GP Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Great Britain ?!
Nothing prevents to dream of such a scenario, as well as to envisage in the very short term the first victory of the very fast Yamaha rider Petronas SRT. Marquez himself admits to watching him closely every weekend, while Viñales admits to taking a look at the telemetry data of his "private-500-rpm" Yamaha..
- MNC of July 1, 2019 : Rossi hits the mat in Assen after two years without a win
Thanks to this third place, Fabio strengthens while awaiting his status as the first independent driver in the provisional behind Marquez, Dovizioso, Petrucci, Rins and Rossi. The "Rookie" is now only five lengths from the experienced Italian driver (67 Vs 72 pts), whose counter was blocked at Assen following !
