MotoGP Aragon GP – Pedrosa (2nd): "I did not know what turn the race was going to take"
Dani Pedrosa took his eighth podium of the season at the 2017 Aragon Grand Prix after a remarkable comeback in the second part of the race. “Pedro” takes the opportunity to steal 4th place in the provisional from Valentino Rossi, author of a resistance not to the liking of the official Honda… MNC Statements and Analysis.
Dani Pedrosa, Honda-Repsol (6th in qualifying and in race) : “I think we can be happy because in the end we had a good weekend. We were still there, which is very positive. The "worst" was maybe the qualifying, but other than that this year we We were very competitive on this track. I couldn"t gain any positions in the first corner, there were all these drivers around me and I ended up behind Maverick ".

“I had chosen a medium rear tire because I felt more comfortable with it, but I knew I was going to have to manage a bit. I was trying to control, I didn"t know what turn the race was going to take. J Then tried to pass Maverick, but he was faster than me in a straight line and in some corners. He wasn"t committing any deviations so I had to force to pass him and then I started to recover. then realized that my pace was much higher. I was a little at the limit with the front, because the tire (in medium rubber too, Editor"s note) was too hard for me ".
Site analysis : The races at home are smiling for Dani Pedrosa as the Catalan climbs for the second time this season on the second place of the podium at the GP of Aragon, after winning in Jerez and finishing third in Catalonia. A great way to erase its performance behind the previous races (7th in Great Britain and 14th in Misano).
"Pedro" even came a hair"s breadth away from victory, finishing just 0.879sec behind Marquez after a nice – but late – comeback from his 6th place on the grid. The winner also admitted at the finish to scrutinize his signage with concern, aware of the very high pace of n ° 26 at the end of the race. !
"Dani was attacking hard, until the last lap he was playing for victory", exclaimed Marquez, a little surprised by the brilliant return of Dani Pedrosa who brilliantly elbowed to print his rhythm in the second part of the Grand Prix with the drivers Yamaha officials, especially Valentino Rossi…

"It"s always positive to be able to fight with other pilots. But with Valentino, we came close to contact", regrets "Pedro" who considers that the Italian put up a useless – even dangerous – resistance when he passed him eight laps from the finish to steal third place.
Better placed at the exit of turn 15 – a tight left curve from which the MotoGP come out first at about 90 km / h -, Pedrosa had turned to the left to prepare his overtaking on the Yamaha in favor of the suction in the long straight line that follows, at the end of which the fastest motorcycles tease the 340 km / h.
But Valentino Rossi – who could not see Pedrosa’s maneuver in progress – also shifted to the left in the straight line, forcing the Honda rider to put his wheels on the outer limits of the track to complete his overtaking! Enough to get the adrenaline pumping, especially at over 300 km / h! But also to provoke the wrath of Pedrosa, who believes that Rossi should have left him more room…
“I haven”t seen the footage, so I can”t judge what he (Rossi, Editor”s note) actually saw,” explains Dani Pedrosa. “At the start, I was not in his field of vision, but once side by side, we try to make room. I do not think it was necessary to force so much, because the risk and the margin of “errors are significant at this speed “, maintains the HRC pilot who had attempted the same kind of maneuver two laps earlier on Dovi, without success due to the health of the Italian V4 !
The person concerned does not see things the same way: “if he is not happy, Pedrosa, he can run on his own”, annoyed Valentino Rossi, for whom the nervousness of his rival is in no way justified. “Everyone deviates to the left at the exit of this bend”, develops the Doctor who denies having wanted to take the Spanish “in sandwich” with the edges to force him to cut the gas.
The fact remains that Dani Pedrosa finally passed without damage to climb back to the front of the race, then overtaking Jorge Lorenzo to take second place and sign a 100% Spanish podium. Irony of history: this position allows him to steal from Valentino Rossi 4th place in the provisional classification for two small points (170 against 168) !
At the dawn of his 32 years – on September 29 – Dani Pedrosa is now 54 points behind leader Marc Marquez (224) with four races to go to the end of the season (Japan, Australia, Malaysia and Valencia). As for Rossi, running for the world crown on a regular basis looks more and more difficult…
