A new survey paints a portrait of two-wheeler drivers in France
It’s hard to know who the French bikers are: from the bad boy of the 50s to the quadra in a 21st century suit, a lot of oil has flowed under the bridges… An in-depth TNS Sofres survey for GEMA Prevention provides a clearer picture.
The expectations of French bikers and scooterists in terms of road safety
Drivers of motorized two-wheelers in France have had an average of 1.1 accidents during their journey (only 0.5 among moderates, 1 among serene and 1.3 among enthusiasts, stressed and transgressive).
A vast majority of them (94%) consider prevention as "important", but 44% are satisfied with the current sanctions ("traffic violations committed by two-wheelers should be penalized as is currently done"). On the other hand, 30% (!) Would like"more rigorous than currently"against only 26% who would like"more flexibility than currently"…
Among the priority areas of prevention, the drivers of motorized two-wheelers cite first "prevention aimed at motorists so that they are more attentive to two-wheelers"(61% on average but 77% among enthusiasts).
Follow "prevention for young drivers of motorized two-wheelers"(45%),"prevention aimed at all drivers of motorized two-wheelers in order to make them aware of the dangers of the main risky behaviors"(34%),"encouragement to respect the highway code"(29%) and lastly"encouraging compliance with speed limits"(17%).
Among the measures to be adopted as a priority, all bikers and scooterists would first like "improving road infrastructure"(56% but 69% among enthusiasts). 44% are in favor of"better training for B permit holders"who drive a 125 (55% among enthusiasts), 30% for"improving the visibility of drivers of motorized two-wheelers (equipment in specific colors, reflective bands)", 21% for the"strengthening of training to prepare for a two-wheeler license", 20% for one"continuing education for young drivers"and still 13% on average for the"strengthening of sanctions"(only 2% of enthusiasts but 11% of calm, 13% of moderates, 18% of transgressors (!) and 27% of stressed).
