Eclipsed by the MT, the Yamaha FZ8 and FZ1 disappear
Yamaha’s competitors are not the only ones to suffer from the arrival of the MT-07 and MT-09: their insolent domination on the French motorcycle market also precipitates the end of two roadsters from Iwata’s catalog, the FZ1 and FZ8, as well as their semi-faired version Fazer1 and Fazer8 .
Yamaha’s competitors are not the only ones to suffer from the arrival of the and: their insolent domination also precipitates the end of two roadsters from Iwata’s catalog, the and, as well as their semi-streamlined version and .
"The FZs are at the end of their cycle and the MTs are working very well"
"Indeed, we are stopping the FZ1 and the FZ8", explains Yamaha Motor France (YMF) questioned by MNC on the future of these two roadsters, in loss of speed and visibility on the French market. The arrival of and would it be responsible for the disappearance of 4-cylinder roadsters at Yamaha? Yes in large part, recognizes YMF, for whom the cessation of FZ could be only temporary…
"Yamaha is a generalist brand which does not have vocation to make only the twin cylinder (MT-07, Editor’s note) or three-cylinder (MT-09, NDLR). It just happens that the FZs are at the end of their cycle and that the MTs work very well ", observes the French subsidiary..
Launched in 2006, the and its streamlined version is one of the pioneers of the 4-legged sports roadster genre. At the time, Yamaha had struck a huge blow by grafting it squarely the cycle part and the engine barely deflated (150 hp) of the R1 !
Over the years, this bike full of qualities has however lost its aura. The fact that it gives way to the turbulent is therefore not illogical. On the other hand, the decision to make the FZ8 disappear is more astonishing: then, the "small-medium" FZ is relatively young and still has strengths to be made….
A future FZ1 built around the R1 2015? Yum !
"YMF is a distribution subsidiary which depends on Japanese R&D", replies Yamaha France diplomatically while approving our analysis: "there remain customers sensitive to the smoothness of this type of engine and the comfort of FZs".
Good deals: destocking of FZ1 at 8,500 € ! |
Following the decision to stop importing the FZ1 and FZ8, Yamaha France is currently destocking its models still in dealerships.. The perfect opportunity to achieve good business since the latest FZ1 equipped with ABS (2012 vintages) are currently displayed at only 8,499 €. Or 500 euros less than the FZ8 which does not benefit – for the moment? – an end-of-career "rebate" ! |
A remark which corroborates the findings reported by Yamaha dealerships to MNC: delighted income from a test of the MT-09, some customers nevertheless prefer the FZ8, considered less "extreme".
Interrupted, the line of FZ will not be buried so far: "our 4-cylinders have lost their interest, but it is momentary", warns YMF. In writing the Journal moto du Net, we are already salivating at the idea of testing a new generation of FZ1 equipped with the famous CP4 4-cylinder. To follow naturally on MNC: stay connected !
