Business - End of 100 horses, electric motorcycle ... The CSIAM facing the big files 2015 - The electricity fairy does not - yet - a miracle

The International Chamber of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles took stock of the 2014 French market for motorized 2 and 3 wheels. Among the other topics discussed, MNC retains four: equipment, 50 cc, electric … and 100 horses !

The electricity fairy does not – yet – a miracle

"The number of redundants fell in 2014", explains the national technical director (DTN) of the FFM, Philippe Thiebaut,"we are not worried but we note a clear slowdown in sports licenses and a switch to leisure ones". And if the salvation came from the electric ?!

In terms of electricity, the "Motoball" discipline represents its main laboratory for the sports federation. But the growing interest of the French for electric mountain biking, on the fringes of its trial, enduro and cross activities, has not gone unnoticed….

"More and more professionals are buying complete fleets of electric bikes which, if they are clamped to 25 km / h, offer a truly surprising performance.", observes the DTN of the FFM. After a test of electric mountain bike, young people would be pleasantly surprised by this new type of motorized two-wheeler … Will they be won over to the point of passing the A license? . or rather to try !

At KTM precisely, we are trying to develop motocross – the real one! – also via electric. "But the road will be long", announces to Site the president of KTM France,:"that’s what I keep telling our dealers !"

According to the big boss of KTM France, "We must not lie to each other, the electric market does not exist for the moment: it is up to us to create it! You have to try, make people want. Hence our E-Parks projects". Despite this, the beginnings are timid: 21 were registered this year in France.

Apart from a few pioneers – there were three, it seems! – who had signed the order form long before the motorcycle landed in Orange dealerships, customers are still reluctant, especially because of the price of the machine.

"What we must strive to make understood is that the motorcycle is delivered with a good part of its "full" for three to five years to come, unlike the thermal models which must be supplied with gasoline, much more expensive than electricity", insists Eric Antunes.

Less critical for a leisure practice, the question of autonomy still penalizes scooters on which we must be able to count on a daily basis. Leader of the (micro-) market with 227 registrations in France in 2014, BMW recognizes that its scooter still needs to improve on this point.

"Our has a range of 100 km", recalls, general manager of BMW Motorrad France. But according to him, it is only"when this value is doubled that the product will become really interesting". But going from 100 to 200 km is not an easy task … And in another area, going from 100 to 200 hp either. !
