Friendliness and professionalism at the 5th JPMS in Lyon

Business - Friendliness and professionalism at the 5th JPMS in Lyon -

The 5th Professional Motorcycle and Scooter Days were held this weekend in Lyon: in two days, 6,000 exclusively professional visitors gathered on a larger area than last year but more convivial.. Report.

"Five years: the age of recognition and maturity", summed up yesterday the organizers of the 5th Professional Motorcycle and Scooter Days (JPMS), whose 2007 edition will have gathered 180 exhibitors on Sunday and Monday in Lyon and"more than 6000 visitors"over 20,000 m2, or an area multiplied by five in five years.

Paced by three conferences open to exhibitors and visitors alike (the practice of green leisure following the cancellation of the Olin circular with Codever, the legal exception to the 100 hp legislation with OFDAM and motorcycle professionals facing to the Internet with Site), the 5th JPMS is asserting itself "more than ever as the big meeting to start the activity", underline the organizers, Jean-Pierre Bonato and Stephane Clair (Alice Events).

"JPMS is both a platform for meetings and commercial decision-making, but also a site for discussions and reflections for the daily practice of motorcycling.", specifies Jean-Pierre Bonato.

The organizers are also delighted that several people from the same establishment made the trip, while only one ticket is offered at each concession: "sometimes three people from the same establishment travel, proof of the value of the operation. But above all, a much wider geographical distribution of visitors particularly attracted exhibitors.", notes Alice Events.

"The whole profession has fully adhered to the operation and has definitively confirmed the legitimacy of the trade show and its anchoring in the community.", summarize Jean-Pierre Bonato and Stephane Clair, who note that on"more than 6,000 visitors, nearly 500 stayed during the two opening days of the show".

Indeed, it is difficult for a professional worthy of the name to take a full look at the issue in a single day, to such an extent that some exhibitors are asking for a third day to be set up in order to be able to "even better to welcome and inform visiting retailers".

Cyril Despres, Magalï Langlois, Serge Nuques, Marc Troussard, Agnès Dupuy…

But the JPMS are also the meeting place for certain pilots, such as Cyril Despres who came to celebrate his recent Dakar victory on the KTM stand, or Magalï Langlois who will field his Yamaha n ° 67 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at the Bol d ‘ Or within his team 3A Racing Team with Christelle Orsi, Fabien Favre and Franck Momey as fourth driver.

Magalï has also entered the French Superbike Championship, but is currently on the waiting list … Response mid-February for the first race at Le Mans on March 24 and 25 !

You could also randomly cross paths with the sinister Serge Nuques, straight out of his Grolandais den to come and prepare for his 2007 season, the driver Agnès Dupuy or the multiple French rally champion Marc Troussard, who came to exhibit his Moto-Net Mobile n ° 8 (French Rally Championship, Dark Dog Moto Tour and FIM International Rally Championship) on the Site stand.

Racer

Rewarded with the JPMS trophy for product of the year in the "biker equipment" category (see box below) for its entire range, the excellent brand of Racer gloves () presented its new "D3O" process , a kind of plasticine for the protective elements of the glove which hardens during manufacture "and whose elastic capacities allow it to absorb shocks and avoid possible fracture resonances", assures the manager.

Gowinn

The launch of Gowinn, a new Luxembourg brand of two-wheelers (), required two and a half years of work, the time to select the factories and then the desired Chinese models: "out of 130 factories, we have chosen 15 to release our entire range", says Alain di Duca, CEO of Gomotors France.

"Our business model is that of Dell (number one in computer sales in the world, Editor’s note), which consists of not dealing with a single factory but several, in order to compete and obtain the best product", illustrates the boss for whom four engineers work in China to improve product quality.

But the main concern of importers of this type of vehicle remains after-sales service … After-sales service must therefore be carefully prepared, because it is a point that "the Chinese do not know !", remarks the manager who had to create a nomenclature of parts and ask that they be packed before being sent to France !

In China, system D still prevails and Chinese concessions are like the European concessions … of a century ago! "Repairers work on the ground and dismantle old models to replace defective parts", reports the boss of Gomotors:"they don’t need spare parts !"

So at this new distributor, we promise the delivery of any spare part from their stocks in Antwerp within 72 hours: "for us it is a desire to differentiate ourselves from certain unscrupulous importers"he insists.

On the other hand, in order to meet the minimum union requirements of European two-wheeler users, certain components (forks, oils, brakes, belts, paints, etc.) differ from the Chinese livery, at the request of the ‘importer: "we have tested the equivalent of nine containers to ensure their quality", assures Gomotors.

Further proof, according to them, that Chinese products are of good quality: "our Urban S comes from the same factories and the same chains as the Yamaha YBR", indicates Alain Di Duca, specifying that his 125 costs € 500 less than the Japanese, or € 1,490 incl..

The Japanese being forced to bear very significant R&D costs – hypersport is not created that easily! – and high operating costs – factories, payroll costs, communication, competition, etc. -, the Chinese and their importers can indeed afford to lower prices without fearing for their margin !

However, without reaching the level of technology reached by MP3, the Chinese allow themselves a few excursions off the beaten track, as evidenced in particular by the CityQuad quad with rims worthy of the most beautiful Italian or the City (read) !

Unlike the MP3 considered as a two-wheeler, the Chinese three-wheeler is approved in France as a tricycle: B licenses thus benefit from a 150 cc engine without having to pass the motorcycle license. But despite its roof to the BMW C1, wearing a helmet is mandatory on this third type machine.

In the end, according to the newcomer in the two-wheeler market, all the precautions mentioned above should allow Chinese vehicle sales to double next year: response in Site’s 2007 market report !

Gowatt

Second brand of the Gomotors group, Gowatt () distributes, as its name suggests, electric vehicles. For these products, efforts have been made more "on service and innovation than on price ", explains Alain Di Duca. A Site. And although embryonic for the moment, this"clean engineering"seems to be of increasing interest to investors.

Still fitted with a simple lead-acid battery, Gowatt scooters develop 1500 W and have a range of 45 km. The batteries are designed to withstand 500 recharges, or a year and a half of daily use.

Better accomplished perhaps, electric bicycles – count between 800 and 1,400 € depending on the model – have 250 W Ni-MH batteries of small size allowing to travel 30 km. Compared to the 150 kg of scooters, their twenty kilos could interest "people using the train and having to reach their station, or motorhome users to get to the petanque area !

But here again, distributors must ensure that their products comply with Western standards: "their first electric scooters were unacceptable, meeting no safety standards and lacking in power", confesses Alain Di Duca.

Built for people weighing around 60 kg and traveling at 20 km / h in flat cities, Chinese electric scooters will still have to evolve before climbing the steep alleys of Lyon at 50 km / h, loaded with one or even two passengers of 75 kg !

However, the importer has high hopes for this technology: "from next year, we will increase the power of our scooters to 2500 W"Bridged at 60 km / h, these novelties should benefit from an excellent torque, so that their official presentation should take place at the foot of the Butte Montmartre in Paris: the guests will be two by scooter and will climb" gas "in large towards the Sacre-Coeur … To be continued !

Ultimately, the Gowinn and Gowatt network should be formed from 80 to 100 dealerships, with managers wishing to focus on their relationships with them and their customers. Two brands to watch closely this year !

But Gomotors was not the only one at the JPMS to present Chinese two-wheel models: Keeway France, in particular, had made the trip…

Keeway

Keeway is the "western" brand of Qianjiang, based in Hungary to oversee the activities of the Chinese group in Europe. Keeway France () is a very recent subsidiary, as is Keeway Poland, Spain, Italy, Croatia and the United States among others.

With 415 sales in just eight months of activity in 2006, the brand is already 23rd among manufacturers (read). And if we take into account the 50 cc, Keeway France has registered a total of no less than 9,000 two-wheelers during its first year. !

The Italian design offices are no stranger to this success, because the look of Keeway scooters has nothing to do with the usual Chinese productions. For a price contained between 999 and 1,200 €, young French people are no longer ashamed to ride on Chinese 50 cc !

"Some customers come to a dealership to buy a used vehicle and realize that for the same price, they can buy a new vehicle.", explains to Site Marc Mantello, communication and marketing director of Keeway France..

Qianjiang’s products also owe their success to another important factor: "we offer our retailers a profitability that is no longer found in other brands", the manager tells us.

A shocking argument for the dealers who came to canvass new brands during these 5th JPMS! At the moment, 280 of them are trying the Keeway experience and "this number of points of sale is in perpetual movement, it is constantly increasing", assures Marc Mantello.

Regarding after-sales service, the communications and marketing director concedes that "of course, we will improve"Confident, this is a weak point on which he does not hesitate to dwell:"we have the means to sell important parts such as forks or frames inexpensively, which prevents wrecks", he concludes calmly.

Limited for the moment to a cylinder capacity of 125 cc, Keeway France does not rule out the development of medium-capacity products. As for the Benelli brand, also distributed by Keeway France, range complements are the order of the day but there is no question of upsetting this almost century-old Italian lady. !

RP Broadcasts

Much smaller than the previous distributors, RP Diffusions nonetheless offers an interesting point of view on the profession: Frederic Patey, the manager, explains to Site why he is forced, after just a year of work, not to no longer distribute some of its 2006 models.

"Peugeot and Qingqi have made agreements for certain 50 and 125 products that the French brand will distribute under its own name, as Piaggio and Zongshen do for example.", he explains to us a bit disappointed.

"We have worked a lot for this Chinese brand in terms of sales and image so we will still continue to import other of their products exclusively.", he continues.

For 2007, the distributor in southwestern France is also planning to set up in Ile-de-France: in addition to its Qingqi, it will offer two other Chinese brands of scooters and motorcycles there under the French trade name d. ‘Astrom and Mohoto.

This will be an opportunity for him to extend his offer – centered like many on 50 cc – and to sell more 125: "in the heart of the provinces, sales of 125 scooters are inevitably less numerous".

RP Diffusions thus relies on the greater willingness of city dwellers to buy exotic material compared to rural people. As for spare parts, Frederic Patey will continue to order the equivalent of 10% of parts in relation to the volume of new vehicles imported. The bets are raised !

So Easy Rider

Interesting idea from Xtream Wearther (): a "universal" GPS mounting set that allows the adaptation of 98% of existing GPS on motorcycles, quads, bicycles, etc..

The set includes a support cover to be fixed with Velcro straps on any handlebar, an earpiece, a battery with an autonomy of 15 hours and the connection cables.

This clever system allows you to use your car’s GPS when traveling on a motorcycle but it can also be used during a hike by fixing the So Easy Rider on the arm.

Ermax

The Ermax range () is expanding each year, with several new accessories in 2007: from "Led" indicators to fairing blanks, including scooter windshields and other windscreens. Ermax also produces more mechanical accessories such as rear control mechanisms or a motorcycle stand on bearings..

eSolex

Available since December 2006 at 102 dealers (), the electric eSolex (read) is sold at a price of 1,150 euros: its electricity consumption, estimated by the manufacturer at "1 euro for 1,000 km", in fact "the most economical motor vehicle on the market".

Equipped with 2 speeds controlled by the handlebars, the electric Solex eSolex claims a maximum speed of 35 km / h in normal mode or 22 km / h in economic mode, with respective autonomy of 1h30 and 2h15.

Marolo Test

Workshop toolmaker, manufacturer of gantry cranes, electro-pneumatic tire changers and various specific tools such as this laser wheel alignment controller, Marolo () is also aware of the "bio-attitude": organic cleaning for engine parts, biological cooler, ground oil collection system.

The fountain works with a bio liquid of neutral PH regulated at 38 °, without solvents, and "fat-eating" microorganism pellets which regenerate the solution.

Another "anti-pollution" product: the Pelican Pack, a mobile hydrocarbon absorbent dispenser unit: the Fibercan. A cotton flower fiber product that instantly absorbs oils and other products spilled on the ground. "It absorbs eight times more than traditional absorbents and leaves no film of grease on the floor", explains the manufacturer.

The Pelican Pack is an all-in-one system that stores, distributes, recovers and recycles Fibercan. A sieve collects the saturated Fibercan lumps while the reusable powder falls back into the storage bin. "Ah yes, I have been using this for 20 years but I call it sawdust", notes, mockingly, a visitor to the show…

Heroway

Distributed in France by IT Diffusion (), Heroway (scooters, quads and buggies with thermal engines) is also on the line of ecological energy: it markets a range of electric scooters that range from 800 to 2000 watts and claim a top speed of 60 km / h, faster than equivalent models with flanged heat engines at 45 km / h.

With a range of 60 km, the machine recharges in 5 hours 250 to 300 times per battery cycle.

CPI

Another player in the 50 cc market that caught our attention, Mroad imports CPI () brand scooters and motorcycles, Taiwanese this time !. Indeed, its sports model changes name: the Oliver Sport will now be called "Aragon GP".

After having unofficially donned the MotoGP colors of the Honda Repsol and Gresini, the 50 cc two-stroke will retain its Rizla livery in 2007 and will release new Ducati and Yamaha colors, the latter even going so far as to copy the famous multicolored "The Doctor" logo. " !

"The design and the colors are done in collaboration with Austria which imports into Europe and exclusively the two-wheelers CPI "", reveals to us one of the French salesmen. The probability of seeing the appearance in 2008 of scooters in the anodized green colors of our national Randy and OJ is therefore slim … Too bad !

Street Border Distribution

Another distributor surfing the wave of trendy two-wheelers, the young team from Street Border Distribution () has been selling the Sachs range in France since summer 2006, of which the Madass (literally "crazy ass"!) Is undoubtedly the flagship model..

Available in 50 and 125, the Madass has the stripped down look dear to stunters. Its pot placed under the saddle, its very beautiful beam frame in matt black and its 16-inch wheels will complete the appeal to fans of Hornet, GSR, Z750 or FZ6 redesigned but still too young to enjoy it….

We also note at Street Border Distribution the use of means of communication very well felt to reach the djeunz: inside the case of the DVD of the last "Fast and furious: Tokyo Drift"there is only one document, that of a competition aiming to win the Xor Tuning scooter of their other brand"Generic".

Genac Racing

TomaHawk tires appeared in the United States four years ago and their specificity lies in their colors: red, green, blue, yellow or even camouflage! In France, Genac Racing () has been importing this type of tire for quads and motocross for two years. Gradually, he invested in the world of dirt and pit bikes then a few months ago, that of the scooter !

More and more appreciated by quad pilots, Genac Racing explains that "those who ride that stand out clearly from the 40 others with black tires".

Colorized throughout, the tires retain their color despite wear. According to the manufacturer, the performance and life of their products are comparable to those of other tires on the market..

Their price, on the other hand, is logically higher: "for a 120-70-12, the solid color tire costs € 56, the camouflage € 66, the black € 33 while those of the competition cost around € 50", informs us the French distributor.

See you next year for the 2008 JPMS … over three days ?
