Ivano Beggio dies, the great Aprilia family in mourning

If a certain Cavaliere Alberto Beggio founded Aprilia in 1962, it was his son Ivano who shaped the Noale brand as we know it today. The charismatic engineer and then boss – riding Aprilia from 1997 to 2003 – has just left us, at the age of 74.

Alberto Beggio founded Aprilia, a small bicycle factory based in Noale, Italy, in 1962. But it was his son Ivano, a trained engineer and passionate motorcyclist, who then led the brand towards motorized two-wheelers and competition, first in the Italian motocross championship, then very quickly – and very high – in the world speed championship.

"We want to remember Ivano Beggio as a creative, imaginative and passionate entrepreneur who set in motion an extraordinary Italian story. Ciao Ivano! #Aprilia", just published the managers of the Piaggio group, which had the Italian boss.

Tributes are likely to flow in number this Tuesday, March 13, 2018 (date of his death) and this weekend on the sidelines of the first meeting of the MotoGP 2018 season. "He put passion at the service of his skills, he was like a father in competition for me", says Max Biaggi while Roberto Colaninno, CEO of the Piaggio group, recalls that "Beggio was a great entrepreneur, a visionary capable of transforming a dream in reality ". Finally Romano Albesiano, director of Aprilia Racing, salutes the memory of a man "who started from nothing who made Aprilia a world class manufacturer".

Remember that the drivers titled with Noale’s firm are (in order) Alex Gramigni, Kazuto Sakata, Max Biaggi, Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi, Roberto Locatelli, Arnaud Vincent, Marco Melandri, Manuel Poggiali, Alvaro Bautista, Jorge Lorenzo, Gabor Talmacsi, Julian Simon, Nico Terol and Sylvain Guintoli.

Let us also remember that on August 15, 2010 in Brno (Czech Republic), Aprilia passed MV Agusta in the ranking of the most victorious constructors in Grand Prix: its counter currently shows 294 successes … but none in the premier class! Official riders Alex Espargaro and his new teammate Scott Redding will be looking to change the game this year in MotoGP. Perhaps the spirit of Ivano Beggio will help them. ?
