Business - Stephan Schaller, new president of ACEM - Occasions BMW

ACEM (which defends the interests of motorcycle manufacturers at European level) has just announced the appointment as chairman of Stephan Schaller, CEO of BMW Motorrad. We also learn that Renault, via its little Twizy, joins the association.

The former CEO of BMW Motorrad, Hendrick von Kuenheim, had been. Called in May 2012 to lead the automotive branch of the Munich manufacturer in the Asia, Oceania and South Africa markets, he cedes his chairman seat to his own successor at BMW: Stephan Schaller.

"Born in 1957 in Erbach, Germany", specifies ACEM, "Mr. Schaller has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry and since 2012 has been Managing Director of BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of the BMW group".

If Herr Schaller has taken the reins of a flourishing company (117,572 motorcycles sold last year for a turnover of 1.49 billion euros!), He is preparing to chair an association which works with the institutions of Brussels to defend the motorcycle and scooter sector at a time when the situation of the sector in Europe is particularly alarming. "Due to the global economic crisis, the European market has shrunk by 48% since the fourth quarter of 2008", calculates ACEM, estimating, however, that the fleet still represents 37 million vehicles! "An increasing number of European citizens use motorized two-wheelers on a daily basis to avoid traffic jams and find a parking space in the city center, both for private and professional use", recalls the new president.

Renault is also coming

ACEM also welcomes the arrival of Renault within its structure, as manufacturer of an L category vehicle: the Twizy, an electric four-wheel vehicle sold in Europe in 6783 units last year..

Renault joins the thirteen other members of ACEM: BMW, BRP, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Peugeot Scooters, Piaggio, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha.

Hence the importance of ACEM (and CSIAM in France): "our mission is to promote the advantages of scooters, motorcycles and other light vehicles in terms of energy efficiency and quality of life", recalls Stephan Schaller.

"Motorcycle manufacturers are providers of mobility and as such deserve full recognition in transport policies", continues the president of ACEM: "in recent years, our industry has worked hard to respond to the urgent challenges posed by the economic crisis ".

According to him, these efforts have been unfairly ignored by the European Union as "the predicted stagnation of economic activity in 2013 and the excessively high unemployment rates in the EU underline how crucial and priority it is to support European industry, while pursuing a coherent European policy in terms of transport policy, based on clean, efficient and intelligent mobility ".
