Motorcycle mask compulsory !

Against the resumption of the Covid, the Prime Minister did not Break the Tex: he has just asked the prefect of police to extend the obligation to wear the mask everywhere in Paris in the inner suburbs (Seine-Saint-Denis, Hauts -de-Seine and Val-de-Marne)… including for bikers who already wear a helmet, but not for cyclists who do not wear one !

"From Friday August 28 at 8:00 am, wearing a mask will be compulsory in Paris and in the inner suburbs for all pedestrians circulating in public spaces, users of bicycles, two-wheelers, scooters and other personal, motorized mobility devices or not ", announced yesterday the police headquarters (PP) … before exempting cyclists and joggers this morning.

In the meantime, the mayor of Paris had let it be known that the compulsory mask for cyclists and motorcyclists was "not consistent" and requested a relaxation … obtained, except for bikers and scooter riders !

"Verbalizations with discernment"

Bikers are therefore still concerned by this astonishing obligation (is a mask really useful under the helmet?), But users circulating inside cars, vans or heavy goods vehicles are exempt, as are children under 11 years old. "The police will initially exercise an educational action", continues the PP, but then "verbalizations will be drawn up with discernment"…

Failing to be effective – let us remember that bikers are isolated in their helmets while cyclists are often very close to each other in the cycle paths – Mr. Castex will at least have had the merit of being funny … or not even ?!

"Intolerable inequality of treatment"

"This measure is downright stupid, even dangerous", reacted the French Federation of angry motorcyclists of Paris Petite Couronne (FFMC PPC): "unlike pedestrians, cyclists or scooter users, motorized two-wheeler users wear a semi-enveloping or full-face helmet with a protective visor ".

"It would be necessary to be completely stupid or of very bad faith not to admit that this visor perfectly protects the user from the external projections and that it also protects the other people from the possible projections of droplets emanating from the biker", underlines the association of defense of bikers. "Moreover, the makers of this obligation have forgotten that with a mask that covers the entire face, it will be necessary to roll the visor open otherwise it will form a fog screen and impair the driver’s vision, thus endangering him".

The FFMC of Paris also notes that "the City of Paris has put pressure on the prefecture which has just canceled this decree for cyclists. By this lobbying action, the city of Paris proves once again that it is ready for anything to favor a category of users without hesitating to stigmatize or exclude others ".

"This inequality of treatment, whether on the part of the town hall or the police headquarters, is intolerable", judges the FFMC of Paris which asks that this obligation of wearing a mask by the users of a motorized two-wheeler or "canceled immediately, failing which it will take the necessary legal measures".
