BMW celebrates 50 years of its 5 series motorcycles with the R nineT / 5

BMW is further expanding its family of neo-retro roadsters with its new R nineT / 5 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its "/ 5" series, the first motorcycles built at the Berlin Spandau site (Germany) from 1969 to 1973. Presentation.

At the end of the 1960s, BMW relocated its motorcycle production to Berlin and assigned its Munich chains to the sole manufacture of its cars, sales of which were booming. The Berlin plant starts its activity with 400 employees and a new range: the / 5 series, built around the R50 / 5, R60 / 5 and R75 / 5.

The propeller brand is celebrating this jubilee with a new version of its R nineT, the first representative of these classic looking motorcycles but performing furiously in the era of time. This R nineT / 5 is designed on the basis of the Pure, the entry level of the "Heritage" family that can be recognized in particular by its less sporty fork and calipers and its simple silencer..

This "new" model – a variation rather than a novelty – sports a very nice metallic blue color (LupineBlau) on its front mudguard and its tank, on which is flanked a commemorative plaque of this 50th anniversary. The chrome treatment of the mirrors and the manifold also refers to the original models.

The R NineT / 5 also adopts a specific saddle with white stitching, knee grips, bellows on its non-adjustable 43 mm fork or a gray treatment of its engine and hubs. MNC appreciates in passing the replacement of the spoked rims of the R nineT Pure with much more elegant wire wheels. !

Anti-slip standard on all NineTs

The transformation is completed by the addition of practical heated grips, in addition to the anti-slip ASC now fitted as standard on the six models of the "Heritage" range: R nineT standard, R nineT Scrambler, R nineT Racer, R nineT Pure, R nineT Urban G / S and therefore this unique R nineT / 5 !

Note that the engine and the chassis are strictly identical: this nineT / 5 takes as it is the earthy flat-twin cooled by air and oil of 1170 cc. This vigorous engine plays a supporting role within the tubular steel frame and expresses its 110 hp and 116 Nm through a cardan transmission.

This R nineT / 5 is priced at 15,050 euros, significantly more expensive than the Pure from which it derives (13,000 euros) but better placed than the standard R nineT at 16,150 euros !
