The 125 are still popular !
The motorcycle market ended the month of April with an overall increase of 8.1%. Without reaching the number of registrations of large engines, the 125 still emerge victorious: the increase in their sales is ten times greater ! Balance sheet.
With 24,060 vehicles registered in April 2007, the motorcycle market (motorcycles over 50cc) continues to expand: 8.1% more than in April 2006, which admittedly had one working day less.
Once again, the 125 act as locomotives despite – or rather thanks to – their small displacement! The increase in their sales last month was + 17.4% and corresponds to the delivery of 10,650 units last month.
Yamaha, Piaggio and Peugeot are the most dynamic manufacturers at the top of the ranking but the market share of the "others" continues to increase: + 20.54% last month !
The sales of large-displacement are sailing at their 2006 level: 13,410 in April 2007, which represents an increase of 1.7% compared to April 2006 … or a decrease of 3.4% taking into account the number of working days (19 in 2006 and 20 in 2007).
Triumph signs the best progress (+ 52.2%) but remains far from the volumes achieved by Japanese manufacturers. Among them, moreover, Kawasaki sketches a shy smile: the Z are back…
In general, the figures observed should be put into perspective depending on the results obtained the previous year. Thus in April 2006, the sector of large cubes fell by 3.2% while that of 125 increased by 11% … Attention should be paid to the results of each manufacturer.
Market 125: 10,650 units, + 17.4%
Yamaha takes the lead in the 125cc classification with 2,011 two-wheelers sold last April. The success of its Xmax cannot be denied: with 930 sales, Yam’s high-end scooter is at the top of monthly sales, far ahead of the Varadero (816 registrations).
Above all, the Xmax achieves a score twice as high as its direct competitors: the Burgman from Suzuki (472 sales), the Satelis from Peugeot (441) or the X9 from Piaggio (412). The Majesty, another scooter of the brand with tuning forks totals 376 units and is ranked 7th best seller in 125cc.
Almost perfectly tied with Yamaha until last month (read), Piaggio was slightly behind in April with 1,844 registrations. In total, therefore, the Italian giant gives way without compromising any hope of recovering its title of manufacturer n ° 1 in France – among the 125 -, delighted in 2006 by Yam, his YBR and his XMax.
The X9, X8 shoot together in 5th and 6th position while last year, the X8 was in the lead. But what the sales that Piaggio loses in "mid-range scooter", it recovers at the top of the range with its MP3: 373 sales. Note also the presence in the Top15 for April of the Vespa LX and GT, sold respectively at 179 and 178 units.
Despite the confirmation of the good health of its Varadero (816 registrations), Honda saw its sales fall in April: -25% compared to April 2006! However, this sad observation is likely to be repeated until the release – scheduled for June – of the new GT scooter of the world number one: the S-Wing.
The Pantheon, which does not meet Euro3 standards, fails in 15th place in the cumulative best sales since January and should logically disappear from this ranking as of next month … Absent from the Top100 and all the more so from the Top15, Honda’s CBR125 achieved Yet last year 287 sales: a second shortfall for Honda !
Peugeot had an excellent month and consolidated its 4th place in the manufacturer’s ranking. The Sochaux recorded in April an increase in its sales of 35.8%, which only Sym manages to beat with a surge in its registrations of 142.2%.
But while the Taiwanese totals 402 sales – half of which thanks to its GTS, not to be confused with Piaggio’s GTS! -, the French totals nearly double: 782. Its Satelis ranks 3rd scooter 125 in April 2007 (441 sales), and by adding the scores of the standard and Kompressor versions (255 sales), the French scooter even rides on the second step !
Suzuki despite an increase in its sales (+ 9% against + 17.4% of the market) sees its market share decrease by half a point: 6.24% last month. While Honda suffers from the momentary absence of a GT scooter in its lineup, the Burgman barely keeps Suzuki at its pace from last year.
Will the launch of its Address 125 (read) next May allow Suz to conquer new market shares? Suspense.
Suz’s drop in power benefits MBK who, for the first time this year, is sticking his head out of the water! Signing a satisfactory + 28.4% increase in sales compared to April 2006, the Frenchman is even approaching Suz thanks to the good results of his Skycruiser: 246 sales.
On the other hand, Aprilia had a much less satisfactory month of April, achieving only 297 sales against 448 last year! While 2007 had started well for the Lion of Noale, the arrival of sunny days and the lowered price of the Atlantic did not have the expected effect … To be continued this summer. !
Finally, the results of Daelim and Kymco are hardly more glorious with respectively + 1% and -16.1% while other Asian manufacturers are maintaining a significant delivery rate: 191 vehicles for Sky Team, 136 for Jonway, 135 Yiying, 105 JMStar, 97 Keeway, 94 Kinroad, etc.
Large engine market: 13,410 units, + 1.7%
The large-displacement market is marked this April by the return to business of the Kawasaki Z750 and Z1000. The "Seven-and-a-half" in particular jumps to the 2nd place of the monthly best sales after several months of absence at the forefront.
Exceeding its cousin ER-6 of a single unit (620 sales against 619), the Z750 is followed by its big sister Z1000 (292), gone back to the hunt for the FZ1 (317). But the rebirth of Z does not allow Kawa to be among the good students of the start of the new term: -7.6% compared to April 2006 … To be continued.
Also watch the ranking of the Z750: ranked 7th in cumulative sales since January 2007 (1,036 sales), the Z750 will have a lot to do to keep its crown against ER-6 (1,960) – as long as it remains in the family … – but above all Yam Fazer 600 (1,853) and Suz GSR (1,349) which started better this year. The challenge is on !
The leading manufacturer in France, Suzuki is taking a little lead over Yamaha without its GSR and Bandits achieving incredible scores: respectively 429 and 391 registrations. But the sports GSX-R 1000, 600 and 750 continue to attract a good number of bikers (572 in all) and the new Bandit 1250S is in 19th place in large cube sales. !
With a complementary range decked out with certain very competitive prices, Suzuki ended the month of April with a satisfactory + 11.4% even if it is to be put into perspective with the manufacturer’s declining results in April 2006 compared to 2005 (read)…
For its part, Yamaha is experiencing the same evolution as Suzuki in smaller proportions: after having fallen by 8% in April 2006, its sales in April 2007 increased by 5.4%, reaching 2,872 vehicles. Its Fazer 600 is still at the top of sales (736 last month) and its Tmax (479) continues to reign on the maxiscoots.
The situation of its FZ1 is a little less comfortable since it is closely followed by its competitor – wiser but no less effective – CBF1000 abs (317 sales against 305). On the other hand, the Z1000 makes a remarkable entry in concession with 292 registrations … The fight of the roadsters 1000 has only just begun !
Like the arrival of the new Zs at Kawa, that of the new Hornet does not allow Honda to completely straighten the bar for the moment. With 492 registrations, the new 600 roadster is placed 5th best seller of the month of April but is still far from the current bestsellers.
Honda’s total sales fell by -14.7% compared to April 2006, so much so that the Japanese giant went negative over the first four months: -1.7%. It is with Kawasaki (-19.7%!) And Ducati (-9.2%) the only manufacturer to post a significant drop in sales in 2007 … But the year is still long.
Side rejoicing, Triumph continues its ascent by ending its April financial year with a solid + 52.2%: the Hinckley firm therefore continues to flirt with 4% market share. Without reaching sales of Japanese 4-cylinders, his Speed Triple sold 144 copies while at the same time, his Bonneville charmed no less than 71 bikers. !
KTM is not left with an increase in its sales of 30.4% compared to April 2006. Absent from the Top100 of sales by model, the Austrians manage by means of an increasingly extensive range to deliver 403 motorcycles including the third is intended for exclusively road use.
Its European neighbor BMW, for its part, confirms its good health (+ 10.6%) even if its PDM for the month of April (6.06%) is much lower than that observed for the total of the first four months (7.07% ). The Bavarian is absent from the Top15 of sales by model in April but its R1200RT has been in 12th place in the ranking of cumulative sales since January 2007.
Harley-Davidson registrations have not experienced any major upheaval: 474 "made in USA" motorcycles sold last month against 481 last year. On the other hand, Italian "plastic" vehicles more exposed to the vagaries of fashion benefit from a rise in interest.
Piaggio thus saw its sales increase by 30.6%. First responsible for this constant increase since the beginning of the year: the MP3 250 which again attracted 71 French bikers. That‘s two more than the 1098, which continues to top Ducati’s sales !
However, this fine score for the new transalpine "Superbike" does not conceal the drop in sales for the entire brand: -19.8% in April 2007, -9.2% since the start of the year. The excellent results of Stoner in MotoGP and the awakening of Bayliss in Superbike will they allow the Bologna firm to find its smile again in France? Response soon on Site !
Finally, it should be noted that the drop in sales by "other" manufacturers "tends to decrease: -3.2% in April 2007. Aprilia, which impatiently awaits the arrival of its Shiver 750, sold 120 vehicles over 125cc, Buell – strong of his successes in rally and Protwin – 97, Gas Gas and Moto Guzzi 79 each, Peugeot 53, Kymco 34, Husqvarna 32, Sherco 30, MV 27, Benelli 13, Morini 8, Voxan 5 and Enfield 3.
