The April 2011 market blows hot … and cold !
April 2011 was exceptionally beautiful and dry … but not all motorcycle sales followed! Registrations of large cubes increased by + 4.5% and those of 125 fell by -20.7%. Monthly market report on site.
Strong disparities according to engine displacement
After a generally satisfactory first quarter (+ 6.5% compared to the first quarter of 2010) but remarkably disparate (read), the French motorcycle market ended a less good month of April and just as contrasted…
Last month, 21,878 motorcycles and scooters over 50 cc were registered in France, about 1,500 units less than in April 2010 (read). Admittedly, this decrease of -6.3% can be largely erased by the working day which was lacking (20 in April 2011 against 21 in April 2010), but by zooming a notch on our "motoscope" we discover that the situation is not so peaceful.
Thus, the 125 cc market fell in April 2011 by … -20.7%! While last year over the same month, a little more than 10,000 "small" motorcycles and "small" scooters had found takers, they were just under 8,000 this year..
Like what the weather is not everything: "With an average temperature 4.0 ° C higher than the reference average (calculated over the period 1971-2000), April 2011 is the second hottest April since 1900, behind April 2007 (+4 , 3 ° C) and far ahead of April 1945 (+ 2.8 ° C), 1961 and 1949 (+ 2.6 ° C)"Meteo France reported the day before yesterday. Also particularly dry – except in the extreme south – this" beautiful "month of April 2011 did not benefit the 125cc.
Most brands are affected by this new brake application (after the -14.4% in March), but we note all the same that Peugeot manages to ward off the fall by maintaining its score of April 2010, and that Honda and Daelim even manage to accelerate !
For its part, the market for "more than 125 cc" is growing by + 4.5% and is flirting with 14,000 units! Here again, manufacturers have had various successes, especially among the Japanese, as Yamaha and Honda go up while Kawasaki and Suzuki go down..
In Western manufacturers, on the other hand, the meters are all positive (or rather "in the green" Site: pale green for Ducati, navy green for BMW and neon green for Harley-Davidson, Triumph, KTM and Aprilia).
