Like the weather, the French motorcycle market is currently alternating between bright and dark periods. After an invigorating month of March, the atmosphere subsided in April: -6.3% for 125 motorcycles and scooters and -5.7% for large cubes. As a reminder, the sales lag for motorcycles of more than 100 hp due to the late "retrofit" at the start of 2016 skews the comparisons with the scores recorded this year. However, the latter are already not obvious to interpret…

Market analysis is complicated by the changeover this winter to the Euro 4 standard, which led to a bunch of registrations of "old" models (Euro 3) at the end of last year:.

Down at the start of 2017, French sales of motorcycles (motorized two-wheelers over 50 cc) picked up again in March, then fell again last month: 16,502 units in April 2017 against 17,535 in April 2016 (-5.9%).

The weather was good, however: "high pressure conditions dominated the country until April 24, rejecting the disturbances over northern Europe," reports Meteo France. "France thus experienced a very sparsely watered month of April, very sunny with very contrasting temperatures". Too much, maybe ?

The French – never happy, it is well known – must have found that it was too hot to go up – carefully! – the lines of cars on the road to work at the controls of a brand new small 125 (scooter or motorcycle): sales fell by -6.3% in this sector.

Conversely, the cooler periods would have cooled fans of large engines, whose score is down -5.7% compared to April 2016. Naturally, the results vary according to the brands … and the releases of their new models that must also be taken into account !
