The motorcycle market continues to grow in October 2018
The tenth month of 2018 was as positive as the previous one for the French market: 13,025 motorcycles were registered in France in October, a further increase of + 13.3% compared to October 2017 already far from bad. MNC takes stock.
Page 1 – The motorcycle market continues to grow
The ones follow each other on the Site and look alike … at least as far as the overall evolution in France is concerned: after one, sales are this summer! And October 2018 is no exception here.
This tenth month even strengthens the progression of motorcycle sales (motorcycles and scooters of 125 cc and more) in France with a total of 13,025 registrations recorded against. This new increase of + 13.3% is all the more remarkable given that a year ago, the market was experiencing the same boom (+ 13.1%).
The de Site – who, as everyone knows, are much more fortunate than the others – will note, however, that the situation has changed considerably in twelve months since this year, it is the 125 cc which act as big locomotives (+30.2 %) while the large cubes are light balls (+ 5.5%).
Locomotives and small balls
Small engines (125 cc or a little less, excluding 50 cc cyclo) were so popular that their month of October could be described as pink. But by observing the Top 10 manufacturers, we see that four main players are pulling while the means are stagnant and the small ones are sinking, threatened by the "others"…
Among the "over 125 cc", the top three who do not change (Yamaha, BMW and Honda) are also in great shape. Kawasaki finds himself isolated in front of a restless middle of the table: KTM takes up position in front of Harley and Triumph, Suzuki plunges again while Ducati, Husqvarna and the "others" progress strongly (but not very high).
The beginning of October was able to boost sales, especially in Ile-de-France where the weather was warm and radiant during the first three weeks of October. Visitors to the Paris show were able to take advantage of an "Indian summer" to visit their dealership.
According to Meteo France, driving and purchasing conditions were also ideal "until the 20th, in the continuity of the month of September, (…) over a large northern half of the country". In the south, on the other hand, where two-wheelers are also very popular, "intense rain and storm episodes" may have slowed down activity..
Likewise, the sudden drop in temperatures at the end of the month may have dampened the enthusiasm of some customers who were thinking of buying a new motorcycle or scooter? The 2019 news announcement – some are already here! – and the promotions on the 2018 models also muddied the waters … but did not cause the market to falter !
