Happy 39th birthday, Valentino Rossi !

Official Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi is celebrating his 39th birthday this Friday, 23 of whom have already spent in Moto GP races! The nine-time world champion, dean of the field, attacks in 2018 his 19th season in the premier category – 500cc and MotoGP combined – including thirteen on the handlebars of a Yamaha M1.

The Italian made his Grand Prix debut in 1996 with Aprilia, with whom he won his first 125cc title in 1997 before taking the 250cc crown two years later (1999). Hired by Honda in the premier category, the "Doctor" won three consecutive titles – 2001, 2002 and 2003 – before taking up a new challenge at Yamaha: total success with the 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 awards.

After a brief crossing of the desert at Ducati – 2011 and 2012 -, the genius of the mountain pastures returned to Iwata’s fold in 2013 and has been racing since his 10th world title (5th overall in 2017). Despite the age that sets in – his teammate Maverick Viñales is 16 years younger! -, Rossi still feels capable of running for a final title before hanging up: his victory last year in the Netherlands and his breathtaking passes with his rivals prove that the "gniak" is indeed still present !

The No.46, currently in Thailand for the second round of official MotoGP tests, has announced that he will gauge his level during the first races of the season before deciding whether or not to extend his contract with Yamaha in 2019.
